Jameil Aikeem Congo Cares

Jameil Aikeem Congo Cares JACC offers a safe space for families grieving a loved one lost to gun violence—helping them heal, find hope, and build peace in our communities.

On February 21, 2017, my son, Jameil Congo was 23 years old when he was senselessly gunned down for sitting on someone’s step. This, along with other killings that happens in the community leaves behind broken families and communities. Because of this epidemic, in 2018, I started a foundation in Jameil’s name. This foundation will not only provide counseling services and support to families who ha

ve lost a loved one to gun violence. The mission and the goal work in tandem with the foundation to bring awareness and support to those affected by gun violence. We will not only provide counseling services but to aid those needed in everyday life such as rent/utilities, and provide preventive measures to keep individuals from turning to guns to solve problems. JACC will accomplish this by providing the necessary resources needed to assist with choosing other alternatives to gun violence. The foundation holds support group meetings twice monthly. JACC is partnered with Stop the Violence Prayer Chain (STVPC), Moms Demand Action, and the Center for Structural Justice and Equality to provide the necessary resources to families in need. Our foundation continuously seeks to grow our partnerships with various community resources.

This morning reminded me of something many families impacted by loss already know:

Grief does not always show up on anniversaries, birthdays, or holidays.

Sometimes it arrives on an ordinary morning while you're making coffee, cleaning the house, or preparing for the day ahead.

A song, a photograph, a thought, or a memory can bring a loved one rushing back into your heart.

For those who have lost a child, sibling, parent, friend, or loved one to violence, please know that your grief is valid. Your tears are valid. Your love is valid.

Healing does not mean forgetting. It means learning how to carry love and loss together.

Today, we honor every family carrying memories that never fade and love that never ends.

You are not alone.

❤️

At JACC, we know healing is not always immediate and restoration is not always easy.

But we also know this:

Recovery is possible.
Rebuilding is possible.
Restoration is possible.

Many people impacted by trauma and violence are carrying silent pain while trying to continue everyday life. Our mission is not only to support families through loss, but to remind people that their story does not have to end in brokenness.

Recover. Rebuild. Restore.

Those three words are more than a phrase — they are a journey.

Psalm 91 continues to remind us that even in difficult seasons, we are never without covering, comfort, or hope. 🤍

Today, Jameil Aikeem Congo Cares honors the mothers whose strength often goes unseen.

Mother’s Day can bring joy, reflection, healing, and for many families impacted by violence, grief that never fully leaves. Today, we hold space for every mother who continues to love, lead, and persevere despite loss, hardship, or pain.

We especially lift up mothers who have lost children to violence. Your children matter. Their names matter. Your love matters. And your strength continues to inspire the work we do every day in our communities.

May today bring moments of peace, support, and love to all mothers and mother figures. 💙

Today is a new day.

Not just another day to go through the motions—but a real opportunity to choose something different.

In our communities, change doesn’t always start with big programs or major moments. Sometimes it starts with a decision… a pause… a different response.

A choice to walk away instead of react.
A choice to speak life instead of anger.
A choice to break a cycle instead of continue it.

At JACC, we believe healing and change happen one decision at a time.

So today, we challenge you—do one thing differently.
It may feel small, but small shifts create lasting impact.

Because every new day is a chance to build something better.

Gun violence doesn’t just take lives…
It impacts families, changes futures, and leaves a silence that words can’t always fill.

At Jameil Aikeem Congo Cares (JACC), we stand for the lives that were taken too soon—and the families who continue to live with that loss every single day.

We remember.
We support.
We advocate.

And we refuse to let their stories be forgotten.

To every family affected—you are not alone.
To every life lost—we carry your name with purpose.

This work is bigger than awareness… it’s about healing, community, and change.
