The Young Alumni Achievement Award celebrates alumni within 15 years of their Summer Science Program experience who embody SSPI’s core values of Challenge, Collaboration, Inclusion, and Community through their early-career accomplishments and leadership. Nominations for the 2026 award are now open. Submit your nomination by Sunday, June 14.

In many ways, the Summer Science Program exists today because of Steve Cotler. In 1999, Steve helped transform the Summer Science Program into an independent nonprofit, preserving a life-changing experience for generations of students to come. His belief in curiosity, access to education, and the power of science continues to shape SSP International today. The Steve Cotler Fund honors that legacy by providing full financial aid for Cotler Scholars each summer, helping ensure talented students can participate regardless of financial barriers.

SSP International is grateful for support from the NASA Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium (NASA cooperative agreement 80NSSC25M7092), which will help support our teaching assistants at the Lehigh Astrophysics Program this summer.

This funding helps create meaningful opportunities for our teaching assistants to strengthen their leadership, teaching, and mentorship skills while guiding students through immersive, hands-on astrophysics research experiences.

Programs like these do more than teach science — they help build the next generation of STEM leaders, educators, and collaborators while connecting students to the broader world of space science and discovery.
