Spent Saturday afternoon with other volunteers at the Edgemoor post office, loading donated food onto a trailer supplied by the Food Bank. There was so much food! The generosity of the community makes me hopeful for the future.

Welcome to DSEA!

Welcome to DSEA!

Please join us in welcoming 77 public school educators from Sussex Academy to the DSEA family!

Thanks to the hard work of a committed group of educators including 6th grade English teacher Jessica Love (right) and 6th grade math teacher Sammie Melvin (left), Sussex County’s oldest charter school recently became the fourth unionized charter school in Delaware.

“For us, this isn’t about pay or benefits,” Jessica said. “Educators at Sussex Academy simply want a voice in shaping the school environment, along with our colleagues and the families we serve, now and in the future.”

Now and in the future, every teacher, school counselor, nurse, special education coordinator, specialist, speech pathologist, and other similar non-supervisory and non-confidential employee at the K-12 school in Georgetown is eligible to join the newly formed Sussex Academy union.

Do you work in a Delaware public school? Are you and your colleagues fighting for a stronger voice? Email DSEA Organizing Director Mike Hoffmann at [email protected].

Together, we are stronger!

Together, our voices will be heard!

Thanks to my fellow DSEA Executive Board member for his endorsement!

I would like to make an endorsement for Jeannette Wilt for DSEA Vice President. She has faithfully served on the DSEA Executive Board, as a New Castle County Representative, and served as DSEA Treasurer and Vice President. She is also very active in the Brandywine Education Association, where she has served as building representative, membership chair and political action chair. She is willing to take a stand for education groups. Jeannette has spoken in support of all employee groups in front of her own school board, and she is willing to have conversations with legislators on key educational issues. I truly feel that Jeannette Wilt would make a great Vice President for DSEA.

I wrote this letter to the editor of the News Journal a few years ago but it’s still applicable today, especially with the current climate. Without unions, members wages and benefits, working conditions, and contractual rights will deteriorate. I believe I’m the best candidate to fight for all DSEA members. Please vote for Jeannette Wilt for Vice President!
