The Hopp -Harvest Outreach People Project

The Hopp -Harvest Outreach People Project The mission of Harvest Outreach People
Project (HOPP) is “Connecting People From Place to Place” We are raising additional funding for Phase Two.

Our Initiative

The Harvest Outreach People’s Project (The HOPP) began in 2020 as a partnership between Arise -McCabe United Methodist Church, Asbury United Methodist Church (New Castle), and Richardson Park United Methodist Church it as now has grown to partner with 27 Churches and 8 nonprofit organizations and for-profit partners serving New Castle County, tech, and social services dir

ectly to the people living in our communities. Our mission is connecting people from place to face hoping to restore dignity, health, opportunity, within our communities by building ongoing relationships between people and nonprofit agencies. The The HOPP utilizes Asbury UM Church New Castle as temporary logistics location. Our Resource Center will be located at 330 E 30th St, Wilmington, DE. The land for the project was acquired for $300,000 by Peninsula McCabe Church through its fundraising entity established by Clarence Fraim. The land will be called “The Clarence Fraim Annex” which also has a 600,000 remediation grant from DNREC. The first building for The HOPP is being funded through a $360,000 grant received from The Longwood Foundation. We also were the Delaware Community Foundation’s Vision Grant which has helped us to form relationships with Brandywine Counseling, Area Senior Centers, Delaware Literacy, Delaware State Service Centers and other groups to bring services to these areas as we deliver food and supplies. We are hosting ground breaking for first phase of building one on September 22, 2022. We have an estimate for $511,583.75 for a Phase Two. Once all phases are completed the site will serve as our resource center with distribution depot, and community Marketplace

Better Together

As Methodist churches, we have a long tradition of coming together to do connectional work for the good of our communities. There are 137 United Methodist Churches in the State of Delaware. The current phase of this project focuses on New Castle Country, we have 46 churches with over 18,000 members who served over 49,000 people in 2019. As active churches, we have many volunteers for distribution as well as the caring to do so. We also have access to neighborhood data and statistics that give us accurate information as a resource for other nonprofit agencies working with us in a particular area. This will not be limited to United Methodist Churches or even religious organizations since many of us have partnerships with other denominations and nonprofits. To date, we have the following locations that will be distribution sites for this program:

🥬 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED THIS SATURDAY 🥬

The HOPP Fresh Table is heading to Wilmington's Juneteenth Celebration, and we're looking for a few volunteers to help us make it a great day.

We'll be connecting with families, sharing healthy food ideas, offering tastings and recipe cards, and supporting Chef Marcus as he demonstrates healthier ways to prepare fresh produce without sacrificing flavor.

No experience is needed. Just bring a positive attitude and a willingness to serve.

📍 Tubman Garrett Park
📅 Saturday, June 13
⏰ After the Juneteenth Parade (Parade starts at 11 AM)

If you've been looking for a way to get involved in the community, we'd love to have you join us.

Come spend a few hours with good people, support a great cause, and help us celebrate Juneteenth with our Wilmington neighbors.

And yes... there's a decent chance we'll have more free Hawaiian rolls.

We're not saying people have volunteered just for the rolls.

We're also not saying they haven't. 😉

Send us a message or drop a 🙌 below if you'd like to help.

Yesterday, The HOPP’s Executive Director, Tami Saunders, had the honor of serving as a featured speaker at the Delaware Alliance for Healthy Communities (DAHC) Annual Conference, joining leaders from healthcare, nonprofit, government, and community organizations across the state to discuss innovative approaches to improving community health.

During her presentation, “From Ideas to Impact: Expansion Powered by Cross-Sector Partnerships,” Tami shared how The Harvest Outreach People’s Project (The HOPP) has grown from a single idea into a statewide partnership ecosystem focused on expanding access to fresh, nutritious produce throughout Delaware. She highlighted the power of collaboration and the critical role that faith-based organizations, nonprofits, corporate partners, volunteers, and community leaders play in creating sustainable solutions that strengthen communities and improve quality of life.

Representing The HOPP on this stage was a meaningful reflection of how far the organization has come and the growing recognition of the impact being made across all three counties of Delaware. What began as a vision to increase access to fresh produce has become a movement powered by partnerships, shared purpose, and community trust.

We are grateful to the Delaware Alliance for Healthy Communities for creating space for these important conversations and for bringing together changemakers who are committed to building healthier communities for all.

Thank you to every partner, volunteer, supporter, and community member who continues to help make this work possible. The future of community health is stronger when we work together.

🎉 We Have Exciting News to Share! 🎉

The Harvest Outreach People’s Project (The HOPP) is honored to announce that we have been selected as a recipient of funding through Delaware’s Grocery Initiative and First State Food System Program.

Among the 28 organizations receiving awards statewide, The HOPP was honored to receive the largest grant award, a testament to the impact of our work and our commitment to expanding food access for Delaware families.

“This investment represents more than funding. It is an investment in people, communities, and the belief that every family deserves access to fresh, nutritious food,” said Tami Saunders, Executive Director of The HOPP. “We are grateful for this opportunity to expand our impact and continue building a stronger food system that serves families throughout Delaware.”

This support will help us continue our mission of connecting families to fresh, nutritious food through our statewide distribution network and community partnerships serving all three counties of Delaware.

We are grateful to the State of Delaware and Senator Darius Brown for recognizing the importance of building a stronger, more resilient food system and investing in organizations working to address food insecurity at the community level.

This award reflects the dedication of our volunteers, distribution partners, donors, supporters, and the ongoing commitment behind this work every day.

Together, we are creating pathways to healthier communities, expanding access to nutritious food, and ensuring that hope reaches those who need it most.

Thank you for being part of this journey. The best is yet to come.

No added sugar. Just fresh ingredients, flavor, and a recipe families can actually make at home.

That’s what The HOPP Fresh Table is all about: helping our communities see that healthy food can still taste amazing while creating fun, engaging experiences around fresh produce and cooking together.
