Black mothers should be able to walk into any hospital in Delaware and know their Doula can be right there with them.

Where you give birth shouldn’t determine how much support you get.

Doulas advocate, educate, comfort, and make sure Black mothers are heard and respected. But in Delaware, access can look very different depending on the hospital.

Black families need to know what they’re walking into before it’s time to give birth.

The Delaware Black Reproductive Justice Coalition looked at Doula access across Delaware hospitals - what’s working, where barriers still exist, and what needs to change.

Black August is about knowing our history AND recognizing how that history still shows up in our lives today.

And you can’t talk about Black freedom without talking about Black mothers.

Black maternal health goes beyond pregnancy and birth. It’s housing, food, quality healthcare, safety, mental health, and being heard when we say something isn’t right.

Black women have faced generations of medical racism, exploitation, and being dismissed in healthcare. And we’re still organizing, advocating, and demanding better for our families.

Black freedom has to include Black mothers. Every single time. 🖤

Somebody who understands our experiences. Somebody who knows what questions to ask. Somebody who can explain what’s happening when everything is moving fast. Somebody who will advocate for Black mothers before, during, and after birth.

That’s why we need more Black Doulas in Delaware.

We remember everybody’s appointments, answer the texts, handle the bills, get through the workday, take care of home, and somehow keep a million little things in our heads.

So check in with yourself too. How are you feeling? What do you need today?

Maybe it’s therapy. Maybe it’s setting a boundary, getting some rest, having a good cry, or talking to somebody you trust. You don’t have to wait until everything feels like too much to reach out.

Black mothers need somewhere we can exhale for real.

Not perform strength. Not have all the answers. Not spend the whole time taking care of everybody else. A space where we can talk about what motherhood is actually doing to us mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Healing Hearts Collective gives Black mothers in Delaware room to be honest, breathe, connect, and make space for themselves.

Facilitated by Core to Care, this upcoming session will open up real conversations around maternal health, healing, rest, wellness, and the parts of motherhood we don’t always get space to say out loud.

And because care should come with real resources, FREE diapers will be available! 🖤

Healing can look like having a good week and still needing extra care the next one. Both can be true. 🖤

Black mothers are often expected to keep moving through stress, grief, exhaustion, motherhood, racism, and everything life puts on our plates. But healing doesn’t move in a straight line, and it doesn’t have a deadline.

Some days you’ll feel grounded. Other days you may need more rest, more community, more quiet, or more time with the practices our ancestors used to bring themselves back home to their bodies and spirit.

Give yourself room for all of it.

Black motherhood does not require suffering to prove strength. Choosing rest, softness, care, and healing in a society that benefits from our exhaustion is radical.

Take today as it comes. Your healing still counts.

Around Delaware, there are resources, programs, free supplies, events, and opportunities created for our community. The problem? The information doesn’t always make it to Black families in time.

We’re changing that!

Black Mothers In Power shares the information Black mothers and families can actually use - from diaper resources and family programs to community events and local opportunities.

Because access to information is part of community power. When Black families know what’s available, we can use it, share it, and make sure somebody else knows too.
