For Black mothers, pregnancy and infant loss is more than a statistic. It's a baby who was loved and a family forever changed.

It's the due dates you still remember. The milestones you imagined. The people who stop checking in while you're still grieving.

And the numbers tell a painful story.

In 2023, approximately 8,900 Black babies in the U.S. did not reach their first birthday. Black infants faced more than twice the infant mortality rate of white infants.

And approximately 1 in 97 pregnancies among Black women ends in stillbirth, compared to 1 in 215 among white women.

These disparities reflect the racism, unequal treatment, and gaps in healthcare that continue to impact Black mothers and families. We need healthcare providers and systems that listen to Black mothers, take our concerns seriously, and are held accountable for the care they provide.

Today, on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, we honor the babies whose lives were brief and the families who carry their memory.

Tonight at 7 PM, join the International Wave of Light by lighting a candle in remembrance.

As we remember the babies lost during pregnancy or infancy, we remain committed to making sure Black mothers and families in Delaware receive the care, compassion, and support they need.

When someone you love is facing criminal charges, knowing what’s happening in court matters.

Black mothers and families in Delaware need access to information, resources, and community support when navigating the criminal legal system.

Through Participatory Defense, families can learn how the court process works, what questions to ask, and how to advocate for their loved ones alongside their legal team.

Our families have a right to understand a system that has the power to change their lives.

Pregnancy and postpartum can bring emotional changes that aren't always easy to talk about.

For Black mothers, it's even harder when concerns are dismissed, symptoms are overlooked, or they're expected to keep pushing through.

Anxiety, depression, grief, and emotional distress are real. Black mothers shouldn't have to reach a breaking point to be taken seriously.

Black maternal health isn't just about surviving pregnancy and childbirth. It's about caring for Black mothers mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Delaware is Indigenous land. Colonization didn't change that.

Before Delaware was a state, the Lenape, Nanticoke, and other Indigenous peoples were already here, raising families, building communities, and caring for the land.

This Indigenous Peoples' Day, we're rejecting the lie that Columbus discovered America. What followed his arrival was genocide, stolen land, forced displacement, and centuries of erasure.

And that fight isn't over.

Indigenous mothers and families in Delaware are still fighting to protect their land, cultures, rights, and sovereignty.

As a Black-led organization, we stand with Indigenous communities because our liberation is connected. We know what it means to have systems try to control our bodies, families, and lives.

Today, we honor Indigenous peoples, their history, their continued presence, and their fight to protect what colonization tried to take away.

Who helped nurture the artist in you? 🖤

Behind Black art are stories of mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and community members who recognized our creativity and encouraged us to keep going.

This November, Black Mothers In Power is inviting local artists to be part of "The Art of a Mother's Love", a community art exhibit celebrating Black motherhood, creativity, and the people who helped shape the artists we become.

We're looking for artwork that tells that story. Whether it's a painting, drawing, photograph, or another form of creative expression, we want to see what that love and encouragement inspired you to create.

Raising Black children who know their worth starts right at home.

It's teaching our children that their hair is beautiful, their voice matters, and they have every right to speak up when something isn't fair.

It's showing up at school when a teacher treats them differently. It's teaching them their history, celebrating their Blackness, and making sure they never feel like they have to shrink themselves to fit in.

Black motherhood is more than raising children. It's raising Black children to know who they are in a country that keeps trying to tell them otherwise.

And that right there is resistance. 🖤

Black mothers need Black Midwives. Access to that care shouldn’t depend on your ZIP code, insurance, or how far you can travel.

This National Midwifery Week, we’re celebrating Midwives while naming what needs to change.

Black women in the U.S. are about 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, while Midwifery care is associated with fewer unnecessary interventions and better outcomes.

Black Mothers In Power is working to increase access to Black Midwives in Delaware through our Maternal Care Center. Black families need care from people who listen to us, believe us, and respect our decisions.

The 2026 theme is “This Is Our Moment.” This is our moment to invest in Black Midwives and build the maternal care our communities need.

Postpartum can have you loving your baby and still wondering, “What happened to me?”

Your body feels different. Your patience might be shorter. Your relationship might not feel the same. You’re running on broken sleep, trying to keep up with everyday life, and everybody still expects you to function like nothing changed.

Healing Hearts Collective makes room for the parts people don’t post. The resentment. The loneliness. The identity shifts. The moments you need somebody to listen without judging you or telling you to be grateful.
