Some people bring flowers.
Dolly brings rocks. đź’™

For 31 years, Dolly Eiswerth has volunteered at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport. Since retiring, she’s added a personal touch—painting rocks for patients, each one marked with a heart “from her.” Beautiful in appearance, and even more meaningful in what they represent.

It’s a small gesture that carries a whole lot of love.

Teamwork 👏 makes 👏 the 👏 dream 👏 work

A few months ago, we shared that our UPMC Williamsport FM Residency program was collecting backpacks for local pediatric patients. After seeing the post, the Anesthesiology team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh stepped up in a big way.

Their team came together to donate 25 fully stocked backpacks—helping kids feel prepared and supported both in and outside the classroom.

Grateful to this incredible team for turning a simple ask into something real.

Dearest gentle reader,

What a splendid evening it was amongst the ton! Last Friday, we gathered to celebrate our loyal donors and to honor the remarkable careers of Dr. Barbara Heere and Dr. Gregory Frailey at our Lifetime Achievement Awards. With gracious weather and elegant surroundings, the night was one most worthy of note.

It was this author’s first time experiencing the event, and the care woven into every detail did not go unnoticed. Whilst I have long known the depth of commitment SHF holds for the community, seeing the strength of its relationships and partnerships on display was, indeed, something quite special.

A most sincere thank you to our event sponsors—UPMC and UPMC Health Plan—as well as our entertainment sponsor, C&N. We are equally grateful to DiSalvo's, whose exceptional touch ensured the affair unfolded seamlessly. And to you, dear readers—your generosity and support are, as ever, the very heart of it all.

There was far too much goodness to capture in just a few images…though we made a valiant attempt. Happy scrolling.

Yours truly,
Lady Susquehanna

No matter how many Essence of You sessions we’re part of, they never feel routine. Each one is a reminder of the quiet strength, generosity, and compassion that lives within this community.

Grateful to stand alongside the Paternostro Cancer Foundation and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport in making these moments possible. đź’™

Today we recognize and thank Michael LaBant for sharing his time, compassion, and calming presence through his Tai Chi Qigong session for this month’s Essence of You program.

Michael is a Certified Qigong, Meditation and Tai Chi instructor with the National Qigong Association, the American Tai Chi & Qigong Association, and the Tai Chi for Health Association.

During the hour-long session, participants were guided through gentle movement, relaxation, breathing, and meditation techniques designed to promote peace, mindfulness, and emotional well-being. Michael’s dedication created a supportive space where patients could pause, recharge, and focus on healing both mind and body.

In its sixth year, Essence of You is a partnership between the Susquehanna Health Foundation and the Paternostro Cancer Foundation, offering bi-monthly health and wellness sessions to support patients during and after cancer treatment at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport.

From curious learners to confident future caregivers 🎉

This week, two students completed our High School Nursing Co-op Program at UPMC Wellsboro, gaining hands on experience across multiple departments.

One even discovered a passion for neurology—proof that early exposure can help spark lifelong purpose.

A big thank you to our staff mentors and to the Laurel Health Foundation for sponsoring this opportunity. We’re investing in the future of health care, one graduate at a time!

This Mother’s Day, we’re honoring a different kind of mother. 💙

Though she wasn’t a mother in the traditional sense, Pauline von Mallinckrodt—founder of the Sisters of Christian Charity—devoted her life to caring for the sick, poor, and vulnerable through faith and compassion.

Often remembered for the basket she carried while visiting those who were ill, Mother Pauline believed that healing begins with kindness and presence. The Sisters later established Divine Providence Hospital, bringing Mother Pauline’s mission to our region.

That same spirit continues to guide us today and lives on through the staff and volunteers who selflessly serve our communities.

Happy Mother’s Day to all who carry love, comfort, and care forward in their own ways. 🌷

Our new friends Stephanie and Gio just made this rainy Friday a little brighter. 🌤️

Partnering with a local skilled nursing facility, they delivered a cart full of items for our Jared Box collection. We had been running a bit low, so it truly came at the perfect time!

We’re so grateful for kindness like this that lifts both spirits and shelves.

If you’d like to help keep our Jared Boxes stocked, donations are always welcome. Each box is filled with small toys, activities, and comfort items for children receiving care at the hospital or emergency department. Send us a message to learn more!
