Bishop Benjamin William Arnett Sr. was born a free black man in Brownsville, Pennsylvania on March 6th, 1838 to the union of Daniel and Mary Louise Arnett. He was an American educator, minister, bishop and member of the Ohio House of Representatives. The Bishop Reverdy C. & Emma S. Hi everyone! Welcome to, "Would you like to know Tuesday?!" Bishop Daniel Alexander Payne was born free on February 24, 1811 in Charleston, South Carolina. He also studied at home, teaching himself mathematics, physical science, and the classical languages. In 1829, at the age of 18, he opened his first school in Charleston. Bishop Payne was the first President of Wilberforce University, located in Wilberforce, Ohio. Payne Theological Seminary is named after Bishop Payne, which is also located in Wilberforce. The Bishop Reverdy C. & Emma S. Ransom Foundation would like to celebrate Bishop's Payne 215th Birthday! Happy Black History Month! Welcome to, "Would you like to know Tuesday!?" Bishop Reverdy C. Ransom was the author and publisher of the 1925 circa, "The Spirit and Ideals of the African Methodist Episcopal Church." The publication outlines & reflects on the history, core principles, theology and mission of the AME Church. The AME Church was officially founded on April 9th, 1816 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under the leadership of Bishop Richard Allen. The AME Church organization was heavily involved in social and political advocacy for Black Americans. We are AME strong!

Our world feels dimmer today. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Michael Joseph Brown PhD, President of Payne Seminary and board member of The Bishop Reverdy C. & Emma S. Ransom Foundation, located in Wilberforce, Ohio. Dr. Brown was a pillar of faith, a beacon of light and a true leader. What a beautiful and resilient mindset that he shared with the world. Your presence will truly be missed.
