Yesterday was apparently Take Your Cat to Work Day. Since we work from home, every day is take your cat to work day here. Cats are very helpful. This is Zoe, who climbs all over Dad and drools and purrs while he tries to work. How do your cats “help” around the house?

Today is a challenging day for our family. This is Patrick’s Gotcha Day and the first one since he crossed the bridge. Our dear friend Kate (Penelope Wise), asked us to care for her beloved cat, Patrick, while she battled metastatic breast cancer. He was special needs due to extreme frostbite and the resulting amputations of his leg, ear, and tail. She knew he needed a special home with someone she could trust with her boy.

His Gotcha Day was pretty traumatic because he did not want to leave his Momma Kate and I knew she would miss him terribly. At the time, we all hoped that we were only fostering him while his momma fought cancer and that they would be together again soon.

Sadly, Momma Kate died a year later. Fortunately, Patrick and Dad bonded. We loved Kate and Patrick and we were happy to make Patrick a permanent member of our family.

He was diagnosed with cancer last year and despite all our efforts, Patrick also crossed the bridge last November.

Today we are trying to focus on our happiest memories with Patrick and we hope that an afterlife exists where he and Momma Kate are reunited.
