Great advice.

MSSC member Lorraine Alvarado, MD, with Derby Family MedCenter had a column in the The Derby Informer encouraging more physical activity. “Moving from low to moderate regular physical activity improves mental well-being and life satisfaction in a sustained way and is linked to improved overall well-being,” Dr. Alvarado said.

August is National Breastfeeding Month. The theme is RISE: Resilience, Interdependence, Self-Determination, Empowerment. This year's theme was crafted to capture the heart and strength of the First Food field. Each word in the acronym was chosen to highlight our network's strengths as we advocate for the policy, systems, and environmental changes necessary to create a landscape of breastfeeding support for every family. Our image centers the sunrise, embodying the enduring spirit of our community. Learn more: https://www.usbreastfeeding.org/

This is so cool! Thank you Southeast Carryout for providing this community resource. Fun fact, I found out about this from two different community partners on the same day. Thank you Danielle R Brazelton and Jerry from the Food and Farm Council.

Did you know we have a Sharing Shelf right here inside SE Carryout? 🙏 The Sharing Shelf is a shelf inside the carryout that has food anyone in need of a meal can come in and take, no questions asked. There is food on a shelf, refrigerated food, and tickets they can take to the counter to get a hot meal from the carryout. They can only take one ticket per person, but otherwise it's take what you need. We also accept donations of food for the shelves, and you can also order food at the register for a ticket we can hang up for others to grab. Wichita takes care of Wichita.

August is National Breastfeeding Month. Breast milk is a great source of nutrition for babies, and families may have different feeding experiences and needs throughout their child's first years.

KDHE offers information on breastfeeding, formula feeding, introducing solid foods, mealtime routines, and more to help give children a healthy start.

July meeting recap. We had a smaller group but learned a lot about our host, Child Start . Attendees learned impressive updates from Healthy Blue Kansas , Wichita Park & Recreation , Wichita Public Library , and ICT Food Rescue ! The meeting ended with partners sharing what motivates them to do this work. I left the meeting feeling inspired and grateful for wonderful partners doing great work in our community. ❤️
