Heat stroke can happen relatively quickly with the right conditions. Hydration, shade, and veterinary care can be critical steps if your pet becomes too overheated!

1. Brachiocephalic (short nosed or flat faced) dogs or cats (a few examples… Bulldogs, Pugs, Boxers, Persians, Himalayans, etc)

2. Elderly pets

3. Young puppies and kittens

4. Overweight pets

Car full of water to restock our deep freeze and storage space and water funds running low, can you spare $4 to help us buy a case of water to give out to vulnerable neighbors this summer?💧

Dangers of heat exhaustion and heat stroke begin at temperatures as low as 80°, especially when humidity is high. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures along with physical exertion and prior medical conditions are a recipe for heat related illnesses, and that's pretty much exactly the conditions most of our unhoused neighbors are living in every day. Staying hydrated is hugely important and can be life-saving when you're spending a majority of your day outside in the heat.

Hot weather incoming! ☀️ This week's weather is approaching dangerous temps with highs in the 90s as summer gets closer, will you take the pledge to be a hydration homie and help keep our community safe and hydrated?

How to be a Hydration Homie:

💧 Put out a cooler of water somewhere in your neighborhood, along your commute, or by your workplace! The higher traffic spot the better, so think bus stops benches, parks, etc.

💧 Donate to our summer water fund to help us put out coolers and supply water to local organizations and mutual aid groups providing direct aid to our most hydration vulnerable neighbors.

💧Host a bottled water drive at your work, church, or school! We also always accept electrolyte packets, gently used clean reusable water bottles, and styrofoam coolers. If you've got a broken cooler sitting in your garage we can put it to use too.

Remember, we can take care of each other and water is a human right! ❤️

Thanks to community donations to our summer water fund we can confirm that the first donated pallet of water was delivered to The Lord's Diner today!

We'll keep you posted on how long that supply meets their needs, but we know for sure that as the hotter months approach we're going to need to plan on sending them multiple pallets a month to keep up with demand. Any amount you can contribute towards that goal is immensely helpful, and you'll also be helping us supply water to mutual aid groups in the city that provide direct support to unhoused folks all over Wichita.

Why is this necessary? Aid funding cuts have trickled down to where water is unfortunately not in a lot of organizations' budgets or they simply have to prioritize other needs, so we're hoping to help fill that gap and prevent unnecessary illnesses, hospitalizations, and even deaths from dehydration, heat stroke and their related effects among vulnerable communities in Wichita and the surrounding area.

So excited to share that thanks to your generous donations so far we've met our first goal of being able to buy one pallet of water! 🎉 Thank you so much to everyone who's contributed so far, even $5 will help us get one step closer to our goal of $3000 which would cover our costs for the entire summer!

We still have a long way to go to meet the need for the entire summer, but we believe in the power of mutual aid to take care of each other. ❤️

Donations Needed

Help us provide water to the community this summer by donating towards pallets of water to be donated to The Lord’s Diner and other local organizations!

As hotter days approach, access to clean drinking water is incredibly important for our unhoused neighbors due to the compounding dangers of dehydration and heatstroke.

The Lord’s Diner already serves hundreds of people every day, and with their centralized location they serve as a prime spot for an outdoor cooler to provide water during their closed hours.

However, due to rising costs and budget cuts, they need our help to make sure they can provide enough water to hydrate everyone who needs it!

We’re fundraising to be able to provide pallets of bottled water (roughly $200 each) directly to the diner every month of the summer, as well as to other organizations, while also continuing to put out coolers through our own efforts.
