As we look at ways to grow AO Wichita, improve our watch parties, and make the chapter stronger, we’re exploring a few ideas and want to see if there’s interest from our members.

One idea is creating a group of volunteer watch party hosts. The board would handle setting up each event and coordinating with Johnny's, while a designated host would help greet supporters, check in with bar staff, welcome new faces, and get the crowd involved with chants and announcements before kickoff and at halftime. Having a few people willing to take the lead at individual watch parties could help spread the workload, especially for
weeknight matches, and make the experience better for everyone.
We want to keep hosting as many matches as we can, but we also recognize that it’s a lot to ask the same people to do it every time.

We’re also looking for members interested in taking a more active leadership role within AO Wichita through two board positions:

Marketing & Communications Board Member: Help promote watch parties and chapter activities, manage our social media presence, create content, and find ways to get AO Wichita in front of more soccer supporters.

Community Engagement Officer: Focus on the member experience, help make our events more engaging, build relationships with local businesses and community organizations, and explore partnerships that could benefit our chapter and its members.

You don’t have to be ready to commit to anything to join the conversation. We want to hear what you think and see where there’s interest before deciding on next steps.

TONIGHT’S WATCH PARTY IS CANCELED

We won’t be hosting our watch party tonight, but we want to use this opportunity to have an honest conversation with our members and supporters about the future of AO Wichita watch parties.

We want to see this chapter grow, bring more people together, and create an atmosphere that makes people excited to watch soccer with us. To do that, we need to hear from YOU!

1. Should we continue hosting weeknight watch parties? Would you rather see us continue with weeknight games, focus only on weekends, or do a combination of both?

2. What would make you more likely to attend our watch parties? What are we missing? What could we do differently? What would actually get you out to watch the matches with us?

Don’t hold back! We want honest feedback, new ideas, and suggestions we may not have considered. The goal is to make AO Wichita watch parties something our community wants to be part of.

🇺🇸 WATCH PARTY UPDATE 🇺🇸

Unfortunately, we are cancelling tonight’s scheduled watch party for the USMNT vs. Canada. We know it sucks to cancel a party that’s already on the calendar, but we think it makes more sense to shift our focus to a HUGE matchup on Saturday.

The USWNT takes on Spain at 1:30 PM (party starts at 1pm) in a battle between the #1 and #2 teams in the world, with Spain coming in as the defending World Champions. This is a massive game, and we want to put our energy behind making Saturday’s watch party a big one.

We hope you’ll join us Saturday afternoon to support the Stars and Stripes! 🇺🇸🇪🇸

Hey gang, unfortunately, we’re going to cancel the upcoming watch party on Tuesday, September 29th for the USMNT vs. Chile match. We know some of you were looking forward to it, but we think it makes more sense to put our focus on Saturday’s game and really make it a big one.

Because Saturday is USA vs. Mexico, and we want to PACK JOHNNY’S for this one. 🇺🇸🇲🇽 The watch party starts at 8:30 PM with kickoff at 9:00 PM at Johnny’s Tavern. We want to see everyone there, bring your friends, wear your colors, and help us make this one of the biggest watch parties AO Wichita has had.

A YEAR IN REVIEW: AO WICHITA 🇺🇸

A year ago, a new leadership team answered the call to lead AO Wichita.

We knew there was work to do. We knew it was going to be A LOT of work. We inherited a chapter with incredible history and potential, but we knew there was an opportunity to rebuild something special. Our goal was to grow AO Wichita, create a real community for soccer fans in Wichita, and give people a place to come together and support the U.S. National Teams.

One year later, we can honestly say… what a ride it’s been.

From empty watch parties at Wichita Brewing Company , to packed and sold-out watch parties at Johnny's Tavern during this years World Cup, what a difference a year can make.

And little by little, that's exactly what happened.

We grew from 46 members to 74 members.

We found a new home at Johnny's Tavern and turned watch parties into events people genuinely looked forward to.

We brought the AO Wichita scarf back with a brand-new design, giving our members something to proudly wear and represent Wichita.

Wichita took notice. What we were building wasn't just growing within our own community anymore. AO Wichita was suddenly being featured on both KSN and KWCH, with local news stations coming out to Johnny's Tavern to capture the incredible atmosphere our supporters had created.

The chapter that once hosted empty watch parties was now filling a venue and getting recognized across Wichita.

And honestly? That was pretty damn cool.

We watched new faces become regulars. Regulars brought friends. And a small group of supporters continued growing into something bigger.

But here's the thing: none of this happens without you.

Our members. Countless non-members.

The people who bring their friends to watch parties. The people who proudly wear our colors. The people who buy the scarves, share our posts, sing, cheer, celebrate, and continue showing up to support the U.S. National Teams.

Whether you've been an AO member for years, joined us this past year, or have never officially joined at all but still show up and support this community, you are a part of what makes AO Wichita special.

Every packed watch party. Every new face. Every scarf. Every chant. Every moment that has made this past year special happened because of you.

So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Thank you for believing in what we're building. Thank you for supporting us and giving us the chance and the time to build it. Thank you for showing up. And thank you for bringing the passion and energy that has helped turn AO Wichita into what it is today.

And we're not slowing down.

We're getting ready for the fall slate of U.S. National Team matches. We're ready for more watch parties, more memories, and more opportunities to bring this community together.

And then, we're looking ahead to the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.

One year ago, we took over a chapter with a vision for what it could become.

A year later, we're just getting started.
