Washington Chapter meeting Sept 19, 2025

Washington chapter secretary John Schwartz gave the chapter a presentation on the Oregon – California Trail Association. The Oregon – California Trail Association is a not for profit organization based in Independence, Missouri. The association is dedicated to preserving sights along America’s trails west.

Schwartz relayed how he first became affiliated with the OCTA, when he lived in Blue Rapids, in Marshall county Kansas, John volunteered as the president of the Alcove Springs conservation society. Alcove Springs is a natural spring and waterfall, which was an important stopping point along the Oregon trail where pioneers would stop to rest and fill water barrels for the long trip ahead.

The OCTA releases a quarterly magazine titled “Overland Journal” in which the association publishes articles and written accounts for the journey west taken from personal remembrances and journals from the pioneers as they trekked across the wild lands to their ultimate destination to settle the west.
Anyone interested in the Oregon – California Trail Association can contact their main office and museum at 416 W. Maple, Independence, MO 64050 or contact them by phone at 816-252-2276.
