📚💙 Skill Builders | Equity Initiative

Today, we wrapped up our series honoring National Bullying Prevention Month by exploring implicit bias and how our unconscious assumptions about others can influence the way we treat, perceive, include, or exclude them.

Through a fun, interactive game, our youth discovered how easily we can judge people based on appearances, titles, or perceived status without knowing their full story. 👀💭

✨Equity Initiative Skill Builders✨

Tonight, in honor of National Bullying Prevention Month, our youth kicked off a series exploring Conflict vs. Bullying!

Youth learned about the four types of aggression, participated in role-playing activities, and identified the differences between bullying and peer conflict. We wrapped up the evening by making sliders and enjoying time together!

We’re empowering youth with the knowledge and skills to build healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and lead with empathy. 💙

It’s been a busy evening in Wichita District 1! From fashion shows for heart health to community advocacy, I’m proud to show up for the people I serve.

Tonight, I celebrated Equity Initiative’s 5th Anniversary! I’ve watched ShaQiyla, a former District 1 DAB member, build this organization from the ground up, helping young people defy the odds and rewrite their stories.

ShaQiyla, I’ve been a fan of your work since 2012. Congratulations on five years of changing lives! I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Yesterday’s Academic Boost programming was extra special! Our youth received homework assistance, enjoyed a few games, and ended the evening with a delicious rib & chicken dinner as we celebrated 5 YEARS of Equity Initiative! 🥳🎂 10/07/2021!!!

A special THANK YOU to our volunteer Mr. Marcus for showing up and supporting our youth, and to Georgio’s BBQ for generously providing food to our after-school program! ❤️🍽️

Tonight, our students received homework support and worked on skill-building worksheets to strengthen their knowledge and continue working toward their individual academic goals and grade-level skills. 📝💡

A special THANK YOU to our amazing volunteer, Ms. Tippy, for dedicating her Wednesday evenings to supporting our program and jumping in wherever needed! 💙🙌🏽
