News you may have missed from the June 2026 Continental Congress.

The Daughters of the American Revolution voted to reject a proposed bylaw amendment that would have barred transgender women from joining the organization. The proposal, which sought to restrict membership strictly to those "born female," was defeated by a vote of 1,481 to 984 during the June 2026 Continental Congress in Washington, D.C.

The result of the vote means the DAR's existing nondiscrimination policy, which clarifies that transgender women are eligible to join provided they meet the historic lineage requirements—remains in place.

The Daughters of the American Revolution effectively opened membership to transgender women during their 2023 Continental Congress. Delegates passed an amendment to their bylaws adding specific nondiscrimination language that protects applicants against discrimination based on gender and s*xual orientation, while accepting government-issued birth certificates reflecting a female s*x marker.
