Congratulations Amy for a job well done!
Congratulations to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office 2018 Deacon Livingston Award Recipient, Ms. Amberlyn M. Silvers.
The Deacon Livingston Award is presented to an employee from any division, whether commissioned or civilian, who goes the extra mile and exemplifies humanitarian qualities and assistance to the public. This nominee does extra to assist others in their jobs, making others’ jobs easier, and making the public more at ease. When considered for this award, extra effort placed in one’s job, in addition to the help offered to other employees, was a major factor. A good positive attitude was also considered when being nominated for this award. Finally, service to the community and performance outside the Sheriff’s Office was also considered. This award is named in honor of the late Allen “Deacon” Livingston, a long time deputy with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, who served God, his Country, and its citizens. Ms. Amberlyn M. Silvers (“Amy”) exemplifies just those qualities.
A lifetime resident of Newberry County, Amy is the daughter of the “late” James Robert and Linda Moore. She was reared in the Silverstreet community by her father, Patti Moore, as well as Alice Moore. Amy has 3 siblings and is the mother of one child.
Amy graduated from Newberry High School in 2000 and started working with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office in a part-time capacity in November 2002 as a 911-TeleCommunicator. Shortly after coming to the agency, Amy transitioned into a full-time position.
Amy “hit the ground running” and blossomed into one of the best 911 Tele-Communicators in the agency. It wasn’t long before that hard work was recognized and that work effort was rewarded. In 2005, Amy was awarded the “2004 S.C. Tele-Communicator of the Year” at the annual APCO/NENA Conference in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Amy had been nominated by her then supervisor, Mary Sue Livingston, for whom the Newberry County 911 Tele-Communicator of the Year award was named. Amy also received that award that same year, which was the first after the tragic passing of Livingston. Amy has continued to excel in all aspects of her job and has even recently been promoted to a supervisory position within the Communications Division.
In addition to her job duties, Amy has excelled in community involvement as well. Amy continues her hard work in community with helping others in a different way. While living in the Whitmire community for approximately 17 years, Amy joined the Whitmire Jaycees in 2007. The Jaycees, or “The United States Junior Chamber”, is a leadership training and civic organization for people between the ages of 18 and 40. It is a branch of Junior Chamber International (JCI). Their areas of emphasis through volunteerism are business development, management skills, individual training, community service, and international connections. She has worked her way up through the ranks and is currently the Vice-President of this organization.
In 2017, Amy started working part-time at Newberry County Memorial Hospital as a Unit Coordinator- Medical Surgery Unit. Amy is a member of the Newberry County Rescue Squad and has a love for community volunteerism and helping those in need.
Amy has continued to excel at her job duties and responsibilities but more importantly, she goes that extra mile to do her job and the extra things that make her special. She is recognized by this agency and her peers for her tireless efforts and involvement in the community. Very few people meet Amy and walk away without being changed in some way by her visible dedication and commitment to going the extra mile to ensure that the job is done right.
Sheriff Foster stated that “Amy has made her mark with this agency and continues to exemplify a work ethic that is second to none. She is a true “Go-Getter” and is what we’re all about. She has a heart of gold, is a great ambassador for this community, and is an asset to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office”.
For this, Ms. Amberlyn M. Silvers is being recognized for her commitment to the citizens of Newberry County and we thank her for what she does. Congratulations again to Ms. Amberlyn M. Silvers, Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.
