🌀 10 Years After Hurricane Matthew: Remember. Prepare. Respond.

Ten years ago, Hurricane Matthew left a lasting mark on communities across eastern North Carolina. As we remember the families and communities impacted, we’re also reminded of an important lesson: we must always be prepared.

Disasters may pass, but recovery can take years. Catholic Charities is here before, during, and long after the storm, helping our neighbors recover, rebuild, and find hope.

💙 Stay prepared. Look out for your neighbors. And know that when disaster strikes, Catholic Charities will be here.

We officially have Tropical Depression 9 in the Gulf. It is forecast to strengthen to a tropical storm by Wednesday afternoon, and then we may perhaps see our first hurricane of the season by sometime Thursday. Next name on the list is Isaias (pronounced "ees-ah-EE-ahs").

No direct impacts expected for the Carolinas, but we do expect there to be a lot of tropical moisture that gets pulled into our neck of the woods. Look for a very rainy forecast to set in late this weekend.

🚫 BURN BAN IN EFFECT – COLUMBUS COUNTY 🚫

Effective 6:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, a statewide burn ban has been issued due to hazardous wildfire conditions.

Columbus County Fire Marshal's Office is enforcing this burn ban in conjunction with the North Carolina Forest Service. All open burning is prohibited until further notice.

⚠️ Violations will result in a citation, and individuals may be held responsible for the cost of fire suppression.

These conditions create a high risk for fast-spreading wildfires. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping keep our community safe.

We will provide updates as soon as the burn ban is lifted.
