Every day, we see what happens when a community chooses to invest in people.

On this , we're celebrating the power of partnerships, volunteers, donors, advocates, and neighbors who make our work possible.

Because of you, children discover a love of learning through Freedom School, families find support during life's most difficult moments, women have access to safe housing and resources, young leaders find their voice, and our community moves closer to a future rooted in equity and opportunity.

Our mission has always been to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. That work belongs to all of us, and we're grateful to everyone who walks alongside us.

Thank you for believing in a stronger Westchester.

If our mission has touched your life, share this post or tell us in the comments what nonprofits have made a difference in your journey.

Week 4 = GAME ON! 🏆

From the first whistle to the final trophy, our campers brought teamwork, creativity, and plenty of school spirit all week long!

🏈 We kicked off the week representing our favorite sports.
👕 Jersey Day had everyone cheering for their favorite teams.
🧢 Midweek, campers topped off their looks with their favorite baseball caps.
🎨 Creativity took center stage as scholars designed personalized jersey ornaments to celebrate what makes each of them unique.
🏅 We wrapped up the week with our always exciting Counselors vs. Campers Games, where sportsmanship, laughter, and friendly competition stole the show.

At Camp Funkist, every game is an opportunity to build confidence, strengthen friendships, and learn the value of teamwork. Here’s to another unforgettable week of fun, movement, and memories!

A heartfelt thank you to Westchester County Legislator Jenn Puja for spending the morning with our Freedom School scholars as today's Read Aloud guest!

Thank you for sharing the beautiful story "Anna Carries Water" by Olive Senior and for generously donating your signed copy to our Freedom School library. Your time, kindness, and commitment to literacy help inspire a lifelong love of reading in our scholars.

We are so grateful for your support and for investing in the next generation of leaders. Thank you for making this morning so special!

Our third stop brought us to the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building, where our scholars enjoyed lunch and an inspiring conversation about leadership.

We explored what it means to lead with courage, conviction, and purpose, while reflecting on the legacy of those who paved the way before us.

Fueled by our food and inspiration, we set out on foot for our final destination, carrying with us a deeper understanding that leadership is not about titles, it is about the courage to make a difference.

Our first stop today was the Harriet Tubman Memorial in Harlem, where history came alive through the voices of our scholars.

When asked, “What does freedom mean to you?” one scholar responded:

“It means you’re not bossed by people or systems.”

Sometimes the most profound reflections come from the youngest minds.

At Freedom School, we don’t just teach history, we create space for scholars to connect it to their own lives, find their voice, and imagine a future where freedom is lived, protected, and shared.

💚 Healthy families build healthy communities.

Join us for the next installment of our Wednesday Community Workshop Nights as we partner with Westchester Medical Center for an evening dedicated to Family Health & Wellness.

From physical health to everyday wellness habits, this interactive workshop will provide practical tips, trusted resources, and meaningful conversations to help families make healthy choices together.

At YWCA Freedom School, we believe that when caregivers have the knowledge and tools they need, children are better equipped to thrive. These workshops are designed to strengthen families, foster connection, and support the well-being of our entire community.

📍 YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester, Lower Lounge
