Founded in 2001, the Starfish Greathearts Foundation supports orphaned & vulnerable children in South Africa.

Starfish works in the most vulnerable communities, to reach the children who need it most. Since 2001, Starfish has provided crisis intervention, comprehensive care, and development programs to more than 220,000 children. Over 58,000 children live in child-headed homes ib South Africa.

In the Eastern Cape, 5-year-old Bokamoso’s bright smile tells a powerful story. 💛

Bokamoso lives with her mother, Lindiwe, who works tirelessly to support her family. When times grew especially tough during the festive season, a month’s supply of food—filled with essential groceries—was delivered to their home.

As Bokamoso helped unpack the vegetables and mealie (corn) meal, her joy filled the room. That special delivery meant warm, nutritious meals, renewed energy for school and play, and a comforting reminder that her family was not alone.

Because of compassionate partners and generous supporters, Bokamoso and her family were able to share a happy Christmas together. 🎄✨

One morning, the doors of one of our schools opened to a tiny, unexpected miracle. An unwanted newborn had been left at the steps—no name, no belongings, just a fragile little life in need of love and care. His mother left him where she believed he would be safe… and she was right.

Wrapped in love and compassion, the team made room for a new family member. Showing up at the right moment can change the course of a child’s life—and because of your generosity, we were able to care for this precious child when he needed it most.
