🐾 Strengthening Partnerships in Southern Illinois! 🐾

This weekend, St. Sophia’s Director Lauren and Animal Care Manager Kelly headed to Southern Illinois to spend some time with the incredible animal control and shelter partners we’ve had the privilege of working alongside for the past 9 years through our Southern Purr Project! ❤️

A huge thank you to Jefferson County Animal Control, City of Salem Animal Control, Knox County Humane Society, and Vincennes Animal Shelter for your wonderful hospitality, for taking the time to show us around your amazing facilities, and — perhaps most importantly — for letting us squeeze in plenty of cat time along the way. 🥰🐱

After years of phone calls, messages, transports and working together to get cats where they need to go, it was so special to finally put faces to names and spend time with the people doing this lifesaving work every single day.

These partnerships are such an important part of our mission. Rescue doesn’t happen in isolation — it happens when organizations work together, share resources and step up for one another. We’re incredibly proud of the relationships we’ve built downstate and so excited to continue strengthening them so that, together, we can save even more lives. 🐾❤️

And we didn’t head south empty-handed! Thanks to an incredibly generous donation from Friskies, we were also able to distribute THREE PALLETS of canned cat food to our fosters and partner organizations downstate! 😻🥫

We are enormously grateful to Friskies for helping us support not only the cats in our own care, but the people and organizations working tirelessly for animals throughout Southern Illinois.

Nine years of partnership — and we’re just getting started. 🥰🐾

🏠Heading Home Highlights🐾
What a week. Seventeen adoptions. Yes, seventeen! 💓 Our hearts are basically glowing.

We had a special midweek trip to the Willis Tower for kitten yoga 🧘‍♀️🐱 and that brought in five adoptions all on its own. That is a yoga adoption record for us and it made the day feel unforgettable. Thanks to Heather & Heather for being our adoption counselor and kitten wrangler for the day 🤠😉

Congratulations to Trebalo, Newton, Meepo, Buzz Aldrin, Hummus, Olivia, Emberlynn, Tzatziki, Tia, Mr. Fog, Frankie, Tansy, Squid, Rubbish, Squirrel, Elf Bar, and Pika. Four wonderful adults and a whole parade of kittens all heading home to start their new lives.

Thank you to every adopter who opened their home and chose rescue. Your kindness changes everything. We hope your new family members bring you years of love, comfort, silly moments, and happy memories. 💛

Here’s to a week full of happy endings and even happier beginnings.

🌈🐾 Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. 🐾🌈

Today we remember the ones who left paw prints on our hearts long after their paws left our homes. ❤️

The ones who grew up beside us. The ones who found us when we needed them most. The fosters we fought for, the seniors we were lucky enough to love, and the tiny souls whose time with us was far too short.

No matter how long they were ours, it never feels quite long enough.

So today, we’d love to fill our comments with them. 🌈

📸 Post a photo of a pet you’ve loved and lost below, and tell us their name. Share a favorite memory, something silly they used to do, or simply tell us what made them so special.

Let’s make this little corner of Facebook a beautiful Rainbow Bridge today — filled with faces, names, stories and so much love. ❤️🐾

Because they may no longer be beside us, but they will always, always be part of our story.

🌈 Drop their photo below. We’d be honored to remember them with you. 🌈

WHY WE RUN 🐾❤️

When you sign up for the Fast & The Furriest 5K, you’re not just registering for a race.

You’re helping us say YES.

Yes to the kitten who arrives sick, scared and desperately needing medical care.

Yes to the senior cat who deserves comfort, dignity and a second chance at being someone’s beloved companion.

Yes to the injured cat whose treatment costs far more than an adoption fee could ever cover.

Yes to the shy cat who needs time, patience and enrichment before they’re ready to trust again.

This is why we fundraise.

The money raised through Fast & The Furriest helps pay for veterinary care, medications, vaccines, surgeries and all those unexpected medical bills that come with rescuing cats who have nowhere else to go. It helps provide nutritious food, comfortable beds, toys, scratchers and enrichment that keep our cats physically and emotionally healthy while they wait for their families.

It gives us the resources to look at a cat who needs help and see a life worth saving, rather than a bill we can’t afford.

Because rescue isn’t simply getting a cat through the door.

It’s treating the infection.
It’s healing the wound.
It’s earning the trust of the terrified one hiding at the back of the cage.
It’s giving them toys and play and little moments of joy while they wait.
It’s giving the forgotten ones time.

And ultimately, it’s watching a cat who once had nowhere to go walk out of our doors and go home. ❤️

Every registration. Every donation. Every person who asks a friend to sponsor them. Every team that raises a few extra dollars.

It all becomes second chances.

That’s why we run.

We run for the sick ones.
We run for the scared ones.
We run for the tiny ones and the old ones and the ones who need a little more time.

We run so that when the next cat needs us, we can say yes. 🐾

🏃‍♀️🐈 Fast & The Furriest 5K
Run. Walk. Fundraise. Save lives.

They’re the reason for every single step. ❤️

🚨 CLEAR THE SHELTERS: IBS EDITION 🚨

Do you understand the struggle of special diets, mystery digestive problems, and medications that become part of your daily routine? Then meet Ice Ice Baby and Woody, two lovable IBS kings looking for a home together! ❤️

These boys have officially become a bonded pair and can now be found at Petco St. Charles, where they're hoping their forever family will finally find them.

🧊 Ice Ice Baby is an 8-year-old Russian Blue gentleman with movie-worthy purrs, one adorable snaggletooth, and enough personality to light up a room. He loves people, enjoys playing, gets along well with other cats, and has impeccable manners. Despite years of veterinary visits, the cause of his chronic tummy troubles remains a mystery, and he was returned to our care 384 days ago.

🐄 Woody is a 3-year-old cow cat with absolutely no respect for personal space, and that's one of his best qualities. He was returned to our care 203 days ago. If you're looking for a cuddly shadow who wants to be involved in everything you're doing, Woody is your guy. He's incredibly affectionate, loves to chat, and looks to Ice Ice for comfort. His biggest challenge? He's convinced everyone else's food looks better than his prescribed diet, so he'll need a family willing to keep temptations out of reach.

❤️ Better Together

What started as two cats with similar medical needs turned into a beautiful friendship. Ice Ice and Woody have bonded and are now looking for a family willing to give both of them the happy ending they deserve.

Both boys manage their chronic digestive issues with a hydrolyzed protein diet and probiotics, and they're litter box champs.

Yes, they require a little extra care. But in return, you'll get:

✅ Endless affection
✅ Constant companionship
✅ Professional lap-warming services
✅ Two cats who truly understand what it's like to have a sensitive stomach

These boys deserve stability, love, and a family committed to helping them thrive.

🐾👑 CLEAR THE SHELTERS SPOTLIGHT: REINA 👑🐾

Reina is 2 years old and has spent the last 8 months living at The Cat House - Cat Lounge & Boutique in Roselle. During that time, she has built quite the résumé:

🏆 Three ribbons at the Lincoln Cat Show? ✅
👕 Has her own T-shirt? ✅
🛋️ Lounge room icon? ✅

Reina has officially achieved Queen Bee Status with her strong, unflappable boundaries and larger-than-life personality. She confidently appoints herself the supurrvisor of any task currently taking place and possesses a world-class Resting Cat Face. She knows exactly who she is and has no interest in lowering her standards for anyone.

Reina is still searching for her forever home, partly because she's a yellow bandana girl. Her bandana lets visitors know that she values her personal space and prefers to get to know people at her own pace. Because of that, she's often passed over by adopters looking for an instant connection.

But cat-savvy people who understand feline body language know that beneath all that queen energy is a wonderful cat worth getting to know. Reina plays hard to get because, well, queens don't give their hearts away to just anyone. The lucky few who earn her trust are rewarded with a smart, confident, entertaining companion who has plenty of personality and charm.

She isn't looking for subjects. She's looking for someone who respects her boundaries, appreciates her for exactly who she is, and is willing to let the relationship develop on her terms.

The Queen of the Lounge is still waiting for her kingdom. Could it be yours? 👑🐾

Rice Bowl would love a quiet home that is filled with places to nap and good treats to eat! Could you be the person Rice Bowl has been waiting 311 days to meet? 🏡
