Happy Monday!
I wanted to check in with everybody on a few things. At the start of September I let everyone know I was wrapping up some spay/neuter requests and that I would be hoping to take a break for the remainder of that month in order to get some things done here at the property.
In that time my partner built a new critter cabin from the ground up and after he finishes up the roof and installs doors and windows this week then I will take over to do flooring, insulation, drywall, etc. During this time we also put the finishing touches on a catio that he built over the course of last fall and this spring. Around here things have to be done in stages to squeeze between our regular jobs and animal care.
So when I took this past month to take a "break" it doesn't mean catching up on tv shows. It means re-directing my energy from time out in the community doing spay/neuter and clinic days to time here at the property deep-cleaning, completing projects, swapping out AC unit for heaters, and the zillion other tasks this time of year. All things that tend to get neglected when I am gone so much for the ever important spay/neuter.
This time of year our budget is depleted, it soon will be getting too cold to trap, and overall things wind down. I still have several dozen animals on our wait list from spring. I for sure will get to these people before the year ends but as far as spay/neuter requests that are coming in now, it likely will be March when that program traditionally starts up again before I can get to these new and recent requests.
To compound the stress that traditionally comes this time of year, I have some family to tend to which is going to require travel back to the east coast. I put up a post last year around this time, letting everyone know that my 2 moms were both battling life-threatening conditions. Although summer was mostly filled with good news and I have not had to travel since May, unfortunately we are back to very bad news as of this past week. Please know that traveling to care for my parents and daily care of the animals here will be all I am filling my time with for now. I will chip away at the handful of owned animals from the spring wait list and finish the one colony that I started in September, as my time allows, but I am not taking on anything more this year. Those of you who we got started with in spring, you know who you are and I will be in touch when I get to you.
This also means that our usual fall and Christmas fundraisers and community visits will not be happening. As you can see, our account is nearly empty now and the resident Critters Inc animals will be depending on all of you to fund their feed and vet care. Just because I am forced to take a break does not mean we get a break from bills. Our 60+ feline residents and nearly 40 canine residents will still continue to go through roughly 88 lbs of feed daily in and of itself. The bills don't stop just because I do.
So, for now I will do my best but I wanted you all to be made aware of the current state of things and my reduced presence. I will focus on what matters each day and everything else will be there waiting for me when the time comes. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
