Appreviated clinic day today. If you are on the wait list you should be hearing from me in 2-3 weeks. I am taking a 10 day break after today since we have had clinic day once or twice a week for the last month which is a lot. I will resume after I get caught up on some chores and organizing here at the rescue.

In the meantime, here is a sad kitty we treated today whose mouth was quite literally rotting and he even had some maggots trying to make a meal out of his stinky infected gums. Yes, he was out cold for this but we wanted to show how flimsy and rotten his teeth really were. Ouch!!! The smell was 🤢🤢🤢. Dental care on cats is soooo important and if you don't keep up on the little problems they turn into big problems. We pulled every last tooth. He received pain medication, antibiotics, got a bath and a nail trim, had his ears cleaned, and was treated for ear mites. He will be feeling sooo much better when he wakes up.

Hello friends,

The chaos seems to be neverending lately. These things do tend to go in spurts so hoping this spurt is almost over! I have been to the clinic every week the past 3 weeks with large groups of animals and am headed there again Thursday. That means days and days of trapping and picking up/dropping off cats, cleanup and turnover for cages and supplies. I have received a huge influx of new spay/neuter request emails in the past week and requests for help with animals. When our page is active it means I am very busy. When our page is quiet, as it has been this past week, it means I am very busy and completely exhausted.

In July we had more fundraising events in one month than we have ever done before. We also raised the most money in a single fundraiser than ever before. For as busy as it has been, that was a tremendous positive.

So, I will try get posts caught up after I get things here caught up. Some updates for those who follow along, sad to say that our death toll continues to climb sadly. Only once before in history have we had a run on death like this but when I take on these large colonies and cases, it comes with the territory. We are up to 26 deaths since July 6th. Ouch.

The newborn kittens surrendered to me last week after being thrown from a vehicle, passed away within 48 from their injuries, as I suspected they would. The stray called Chuck who I was so thrilled to catch and get off the street after chasing him for almost a year, passed away peacefully wrapped in a blanket while in my care and his ashes will be returned to his colony caretaker Mary at her request and expense so that she can keep him safe forever.

I have had calls and emails nonstop. A baby coyote stuck under a porch, a colony of 30+ whose caretaker passed and they need TNR, people wanting to surrender pets because they became inconvenient, and orphaned kittens whose mother was killed. Just to name a few.

That brings me to the bunnies. A heartbroken young couple accidentally ran over a nest of 6 while mowing a property this weekend. 3 were killed instantly and the remaining 3 were dropped off to me. As always I took the necessary steps to contact our licensed state rehabber and got instructions from her. 2 are uninjured and will be transported to her. The 3rd was severely injured and euthanasia was the only option.

That brings me to the next ask for help which is...a ride for the 2 remaining bunnies up to the rehab in Gillette. If anyone is willing or able to take on this task tonight or tomorrow, please call and leave me a voicemail. Otherwise I will need to squeeze that in amongst cat trapping and a zillion other things tomorrow. 315-292-3812

Bunny euthanasia at our local vet is $70 and cremation is $30 if anyone would like to donate towards that or the other numerous cremations that we have had recently at that clinic. You can donate direct to us or apply credit to our account at Laramie Peak Vet in Wheatland.

Where to start? 🤷🏼‍♀️

July was ROUGH. August isn't doing much better.

Since July 1 we have had 18 deaths. My heart is very heavy. Today I lost my beautiful Otto, an old man I TNR'd and then opted to keep here because I knew he didn't have much time left. He was #18. When I found him in his colony with no ears left because of frostbite, no teeth that weren't rotten (which we pulled), and a frail skeleton, I knew he wasn't going to make it going back out in the cold. He has had a few good months with us and he had the most precious demeanor and loving personality. He was perky yesterday and then this morning my heart broke when I found him catatonic. I held him wrapped in a blanket until he passed.

Does death get easier in rescue? No. Quite the opposite in fact. But at the end of the day you have to recognize the ebb and flow.

After the supply drive Saturday I got right into cleaning the bus and the traps on Sunday. After a day and evening of trapping cats on Monday, I made the trek to Cheyenne at midnight that night to pick up our dog food order and then home in the wee hours to get ready and head to the clinic for our Tues appointments. On my way I had to stop and let 2 wayward skunks out of my traps and numerous other hiccups so by the time I got to the clinic is was already 2:30. Since I was several hours late we did 9 spays and 2 neuters before closing and called it a day. The rest will go with me next week or the week after.

It has been chaos on top of chaos for the past 5 days and knock on wood, tomorrow starts what will hopefully be a few quieter days to recover and play catch up.

These two teeny tiny babes joined the ranks this evening after being abandoned in someone's driveway when they were thrown from a car window.

Today I shopped for and cared for cats for one of my seniors and now I am out returning yesterday's surgery cats with bottle babes tagging along.

The silver lining and ray of light in the midst of some exhausting days? Chuck. A lonely, sad, sickly old tom whom I have been desperately watching and trying to catch for months and months was in one of my traps Tues morning. It made my day, my week, my month, and my year! Thank goodness. Chuck will see the vet Tuesday.

Tremendous thanks to everyone who came out today to support us!!!

The day started out very rough and I contemplated cancelling, between the heat and numerous mishaps this morning, but once we got through the rough patch and arrived at Bomgaars, the day was smooth sailing. We ended up staying all the way until 8 pm when they closed!

We saw old friends and met new ones. We had numerous sign-ups for spay/neuter, and several people interested in adoption of Roxy or Biscuits. We heard some super cool stories like a rescued kitty that went missing in Colorado and was found 3 years later only a block away, all because of a microchip and another story about a newborn kitten found under a waterfall in Hawaii, bottled raised for 2 weeks, turned in to a shelter there, and then months later, transported here to Wyoming and adopted by the very people who had rescued him. Also met a gentleman from my neck of the woods in NY who did shelter work for 10 years and understands the mission. So much heartwarming conversation. We passed out lollipops to kiddos and milk bones to the doggos. Roxy and Biscuits both made plenty of new friends today and there were numerous kiddos who even took their own money and change and put it in our donation jar. Parents you should be proud.

As always, huge thanks to Anna Troupe, the secretary on my board who keeps me company and helps with all events. I truly don't know what I'd do without her.

So much thanks to Amy, Cindy, Jean, and all the staff at our local Bomgaars. I have never once had a bad experience there and they are always to kind and accommodating to us. The staff themselves donate and are all animal lovers. We always so enjoy going there and they always ask when we'd like to come back so they can get more critter cuddles.

The cash total in our donation jar was $388.89 plus a $50 Bomgaars gift card and 2 pre-orders for t-shirts at $35 each. The supplies donations were overwhelming as well. Whether used or new items, so many people helped fill the bed of our truck to the brim! Crates, carriers, blankets and towels, cat food, treats, and more.

After a chaotic morning and arriving 90 mins late 🙀, me and a kitty and a puppy dog arrived safely to Bomgaars. My board member Anna is a saint and was sitting patiently waiting for us and had already collected some items dropped off by community members.

I will be here until about 6 collecting supplies and donations and taking pre-orders for t-shirts if you want to stop by and say hi!

We had a little visitor this evening. A teeny tiny prairie rattlesnake. The video makes it look much larger. It was only about 12 inches long. A newborn.

August to October is the season when these guys are born. Only 20% survive their first year and they only stay with mom for the first 7-10 days. A vital part of our ecosystem.

My partner nearly stepped on this little critter when he got out of the truck this evening. After coiling up to let us know he was mad, he slithered back to his hole just a few feet away. As always I worry about the dogs being bitten since giving them all the rattlesnake vaccine each year is out of reach for us, but if it happens then we'll deal with it.

Friends,

I am truly in disbelief that I am having to make this post AGAIN but here we are. Every so often we have to have a chat about manners and etiquette and after an incident today, it seems it's about that time.

We have a crystal clear post pinned at the top of our page that states how to contact us. I have no idea how to make this any more clear.

When you call a business and they do not answer, you leave a voicemail with your name, number, and the reason for your call, and then you hang up.

Period.

That is literally the entire process.

Today, an individual from the local community took it upon themselves in the span of EIGHT MINUTES to call 3 times, text once, send an email, and then called OUR VET to try to get ahold of me.

This is absolutely RIDICULOUS behavior and I will NOT be putting up with it.

To say that I am furious is an understatement.

No voicemail left.

No manners.

No etiquette.

No emergency.

Just a person who decided that their needs at that moment warranted this inappropriate behavior.

What was their need?? To inform me that there were cases of cat food set on a porch where I am currently trapping. Cases of cat food that I put there! And at a private residence that has nothing to do with this person. Cat food. 3 calls, a text, an email, and calls to our vet....about cat food.

My disbelief is off the charts at this point and sadly not that uncommon.

So this is what I am going to do.

📌If you send a text for any reason other than a MEDICAL EMERGENCY.........you will not hear back from me.

📌If you call and do not leave a voicemail.......you will not hear back from me.

📌If you leave a voicemail with no name or number.....you will not hear back from me.

📌If you call more than one time in a day.....you will not hear back from me.

I have ZERO tolerance for this type of behavior.
