CASD USA is an American non profit that facilitates funding and promotes the programs of CASD Nepal in order to improve quality of life through sustainable development projects surrounding health, education, infrastructure and women’s empowerment.

Ascend’s Director Prakash Ojha visits New Zealand for the first time. He’ll meet with longtime Ascend partners, University leaders, and elected officials to exchange ideas across agriculture, economic mobility, community engagement and more. In this meeting, Prakash received a special Māori welcome with speeches and song.

We’ve raised all the money needed to get these girls through their first year of college. Amika, Manisa, Babita, their families, and the Ascend team thank you for your support. Hard to believe this meeting was only 6 weeks ago and now we’re sending them the funds. If you missed out on supporting the scholarship program this year, there will be another opportunity in 2025. Happy holidays, and a happy to season of giving to all!

As many of you know, we send one girl at a time through college. Once Ritu graduated, we asked the community who should be next. They couldn’t narrow it down to one. Meet Amika, Manisa, and Babita!

Not only were they top of their class, but are the first students from this district to pass an entrance exam for a BS in the College of Agriculture. Only 300 are accepted nationally.

So - why three girls instead of one? Fortunately, they’ve all received significant scholarships to cover tuition, but need support for the rest. For their first year we need to raise $3,238 total, which will pay for their books, uniforms, room and board, and admin costs. We’ve sent two women through college over the last 5 years. Will you help us make this dream come true for three more?

We are thrilled to share that CASD has a new name! We are now Ascend, a nod to the upward motion that drives our work across economic mobility and gender equity, and an acknowledgement that our projects take place under the biggest peaks on earth.

In the past, our partners around the world were referred to as CASD Australia, CASD New Zealand, CASD USA, or CASD Nepal. Now, all the work we do becomes one, under the name Ascend. Thank you for your support, and for walking with us into this new chapter.

The milk co-operative! Bet you’ve never heard that phrase before.
Prakash dreamt of this income generating program for years, and it’s finally taking shape. Six subsidized purchases of high-yield milking buffalo were distributed to households with the expertise to care for them, and milk is sold daily to the community. This not only generates income but helps improve nutrition. 17 families are on the waitlist to do the same, and the program needs to continue to scale up in order to cover its costs (labor, transportation, storage/chilling equipment etc). If you’re interested in learning more about this program or have ideas for international collaborators, we’ll send you more info.

The last day of Tihar (Diwali) is a celebration of siblings. Brothers and sister travel around the country to be together and give blessings for the future. It’s a really special occasion to participate in ✨

Prakash, our founder, is also now the regional “Mayor” of this district. He’s sparking meaningful change - pulling the levers of both nonprofit and government to do so. When he speaks, the community listens. It’s amazing to watch ✨
