Nadia Ahmad of the Nazda Alam Foundation Meets Senator Ed Markey at COP 28 for Enhanced Climate Action
I am excited to share a significant milestone for the Nazda Alam Foundation. Nadia Ahmad, a dedicated board member of our foundation, recently met with Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) at the COP 28 summit in Dubai. This meeting underscores our commitment to fostering global partnerships for impactful climate action.
Senator Markey, who chairs the Clean Air, Climate, and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, is at the forefront of advocating for ambitious climate action. Alongside Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Senator Markey has been instrumental in pushing for robust climate policies in the U.S. Their collaboration includes a letter to President Joe Biden, co-signed by 32 fellow lawmakers, emphasizing the urgency of
Strengthening U.S. commitments under the Paris climate agreement.
Advocating for a comprehensive phase-out of fossil fuels.
Ensuring transparency and stringent standards to avert public financing for international fossil fuel projects.
These steps are critical for effective climate action and reflect our shared vision for a sustainable future. The lawmakers have also called for increased support for clean energy financing and climate resiliency in developing countries, highlighting the critical role of international collaboration.
Additionally, the letter urges the Biden Administration to prioritize the needs of developing nations in establishing a fund for global loss and damages due to climate change. Thanks to the leadership of Senator Markey, on Day 1 and in the first hour, a Loss and Damage Fund was established.
Nadia Ahmad's engagement with Senator Markey at COP 28 represents a vital link between our foundation's mission and global climate policy. Together, we are committed to advancing solutions that will mitigate the impacts of climate change and foster a sustainable future for all.
