More catching up on events from 2022. The annual CCMTA-CAMTO Dressed For the Music: A Costumed Recital was held on October 29, 2022 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Westminster. 23 students from four of our teachers performed various Halloween themed pieces, as well as popular, spiritual, folk and traditional, video, and classical works. As always, the students have fun, some wearing costumes, as they perform their pieces. And treats for all at the end!🎃👻

On Monday, February 6, 2023 we had a wonderful program presented by the artistic directors of Ballet Embody featuring performances of historic dances: the gigue, mazurka, the waltz, minuet, polonaise, gavotte, and bouree. These dance forms are found in a wide variety of piano music in which students encounter in their piano literature.
Thank you Melissa and Emily for a delightful and fascinating presentation!

On Saturday, April 22, 2023 we had our annual Spring Recital at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. This year’s theme was SPRING RECITAL: ALL AMERICAN. And by All American we meant music from North, Central, and South America, featuring piano pieces from Canada all the way to Argentina. Our recital chairperson Kathy Novalis did a fantastic job (and it was a big job!) of researching each piece and it’s composer and filling the audience in on all the details with her MCing of the program. Seven students, two teachers, and one parent performed pieces of Scott Joplin, Edward MacDowell, LaRocca, Aaron Copland, Alberto Ginastera, and George Gershwin, as well as traditional, spiritual, and folk pieces from America (USA), and Canada. It was a wonderful afternoon of musical performances!

The CCMTA annual Scholarship For Performance Piano Competition took place on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at St. Paul’s UCC in Westminster, MD featuring performances by six students competing for cash prizes in the MSMTA senior division (10th-12th grades), and the Dzurenko-Ferencz division (7th-9th grades). Students came from the studios of four of our CCMTA teachers. These students demonstrated excellence in artistry, skill, and musicianship in performing two contrasting styles of piano pieces before a panel of two adjudicators.
