Stand Up For Animals is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide for and promote the health and welfare of animals in our region as well as educate and assist those who care for them. SUFA raised the funds to build a new animal shelter to replace the Town of Westerly's aging shelter. A collaborative effort with the Town of Westerly whereby SUFA entered into a $1 a year, 99-year lease
while the Town of Westerly covers the ongoing maintenance, utilities, and employs two animal control officers and one assistant shelter manager. We established an affordable animal wellness clinic in 2023 that operates 4 days per week out of the Westerly Animal Shelter and provides a full day of services to shelter pets. In addition through our community outreach program we provide emergency vet care subsidies to pet owners faced with unexpected vet care costs. SUFA has a Board of Trustees, a full time vet, 2 full time vet techs, a full time clinic administrator and two part time employees.
