CELEBRATING TRAILS FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS 2018-2026

We began trail maintenance in 2018 and have continued every year since with a total of well over 100 different volunteers (with assistance from some wonderful USFS professionals). These dedicated folks have ranged in age from early teens to late 70s. Unfortunately, not every volunteer is included in the following photos, but you were ALL very much appreciated. TIME TO IMPROVE DRY CREEK (LAKES) TRAIL

We need volunteers to help with the trail maintenance on Wednesday, August 26 on Dry Creek Trail. As with most of our trail maintenance this year, the work will focus on the removal of downed trees (deadfalls) that block the trail (with a limited amount of “daylighting”- removing brush and encroaching limbs). All tools will be provided and will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Horn Creek Trailhead (at the west end of CR 130, next to Sky Ranch at Horn Creek Camp & Conference Center). The beginning elevation is about 9,000 feet. Ample parking is available and is accessible with a 2WD vehicle. Co-leaders for the day will be Shelly Larson and Matt Herrman. Expect about a 6-mile roundtrip hike which could possibly reach an elevation of 11,500 feet. This will be a STRENUOUS hike (rather steep and long and lots of deadfalls to remove); so please assess carefully your ability to meet the challenges of this workday.

On August 13 an enthusiastic crew of five Trails for All volunteers cleared the last 20+ downed trees from the Lake of the Clouds Trail. After LOTS of work this summer Swift Creek and Lake of the Clouds Trails are now clear all the way to the first lake. Special thanks are due to Suzanne, Todd, Gene, Mickey, and Matt for their hard work yesterday; you are appreciated!

FREE Trails for All COMMUNITY HIKE
Grape Creek TH to Crystal Falls - Sat, Aug 29 @ 8am - 3pm

You're invited to hike to Crystal Falls with your TFA Friends! We’ll meet at the Grape Creek Trailhead at 8am on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Carpooling to the trailhead is heartily encouraged. Please RSVP at link below so we know how many to expect.

This is a lovely "Ramble on the Rainbow Trail" from Grape Creek TH to Crystal Falls (a little over 3 miles one way, total miles = 6.35). We'll start early at 8am and should be done between 2 and 3pm depending on the speed of the group. All Ages and Well-behaved Pets On Leash are welcome! Don’t forget your Water Bottle, Sunscreen/Sun Protection and Snacks/Lunch! We’ll be taking this hike together rain or shine!

LET'S FINISH THE LAKE OF THE CLOUDS TRAIL!

Volunteers are needed on Thursday, August 13 to finish the trail maintenance on the Lake of the Clouds Trail that was started last Saturday.

The work will focus primarily on cutting and removing deadfalls from the trail (with a limited amount of “daylighting”- (removing brush and encroaching limbs). Work (all tools are provided) will extend from about 1.5 miles up the Lake of the Clouds Trail to perhaps as far as the first lake. The hike begins at the Gibson Creek Trailhead (at the end of CR 172, N. Taylor Road) at 8:00 a.m. on August 13 and may go up as high as about 11,500 feet. Parking is available and is accessible in a 2WD vehicle. The crew will return to the parking area no later than 4:00 pm. Expect at least a 8-mile round-trip hike (and maybe 10 miles); volunteers must plan to stay for the whole workday. This will be a STRENUOUS hike (rather steep and long and lots of deadfalls to clear); so please assess carefully your ability to meet the challenges of this workday.

GOOD WORK on Lake of the Clouds Trail!

On August 1st a small crew of Trails for All volunteers cleared deadfalls (downed trees) from almost a mile and a half of the Lake of the Clouds Trail (LOTC). More work remains to be done, but we hope to get to the remainder of the trail later this month. So for now, about a mile and a half up the LOTC Trail from its junction with the Rainbow Trail is clear for hikers and equestrians. We hope many of you will have opportunity to get out and enjoy some of the trails in the Sangres that have benefitted from the hard work of Trails for All volunteers this spring and summer (Rainbow, Venable, Comanche, Swift, and Lake of the Clouds Trails).
