West Des Moines Community Schools Student Scholarship Fund, a division of the West Des Moines Community Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence, is a locally operated and supported, nonprofit, tax-exempt scholarship foundation. Founded in 1993 and operated by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, the purpose of Student Scholarship Fund is to expand access to educational opportunities by invol

ving and assisting our community in the support of students and in the encouragement of educational achievement. Since 1993, over $1,400,000.00 has been awarded to over 2230 students!

On May 20th we celebrated graduating students at Valley Honors Night. Student Scholarship Fund awarded 153 scholarships totaling over $126,900.00 to deserving students! We are very proud of the Class of 2026 and very thankful for our donors and those in our community who attend our events and support SSF over the school year so we can award these wonderful scholarships! Thank you all, and CONGRATULATIONS to the Class of 2026!!

Student Scholarship Fund was honored to work with the donors of two wonderful AFJROTC Scholarships presented today at their Third Annual National Awards Ceremony.

The Luanne Baker DAR Scholarship was awarded to Sorayah Jean Baptiste from the Abigail Adams Chapter of the DAR. The scholarship is in memory of C. Luanne Baker, a long time teacher at Valley High School and a very active member of the Abigail Adams Chapter of the DAR.

The Travis Acheson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jovie Pease from the Acheson Family in memory of their husband and father, Travis. Travis was a 1990 graduate of Valley High School and retired from the military in September 2022 as a Brigadier General. He passed away in July 2023 from aggressive form of brain cancer at the age of 55.

SSF is proud to partner with the Acheson Family and the Abigail Adams Chapter of DAR to recognize these outstanding students!

Our deadline is rapidly approaching! Don't forget to go to the Valley Counseling Scholarship page for the month of February and look at all the great scholarships we have available. Fill out our general SSF Scholarship application and be sure to look at the supplemental scholarships that you might qualify for. Last year we gave over $140,000 in scholarships to graduating Seniors ... FILL OUT YOUR APPLICATION NOW!!! The deadline is Feb. 12th at 3:30. No late applications will be accepted!
