The story of Macy. 🤍

Macy came to us a little over a month ago, late at night, from Animal Control. And honestly… it was hard to look at her and understand how someone could have let her get to this point.

She was covered in demodex mange, riddled with intestinal parasites, not spayed, and covered in cuts and bruises that told a story she never should have had to live. Her body was hurting, her skin was hurting, and she had clearly been failed in ways no animal ever should be.

But somehow, through all of it… Macy never lost her spirit. 🥹

She didn’t come in broken. She came in ready to love. Ready to play. Ready to trust. And over the last month, we’ve gotten to watch that little spark turn into a beautiful, happy, high-energy girl who is finally feeling good again. 🐾

Her skin is healing. Her body is healing. And now, we think it’s time for her heart to heal too. ❤️‍🩹

Macy is 3 years old, 44 pounds, spayed, heartworm negative, and FULL of energy. She’s looking for a home that will give her the life she should have had all along — one filled with love, patience, playtime, and absolutely no more looking back.

She survived what she never should have had to endure.

Now we just need someone to show her what forever is supposed to feel like. 🏡🤍

💉 A VERY successful first-ever Cat Vaccine Clinic! 🐱

Today, 20 families from right here in our Mississippi community came out to keep their kitties healthy! 🥹❤️

We provided:
🐾 Rabies vaccines
🐾 FVRCP vaccines
🐾 Nail trims
🐾 Flea & tick prevention

We are SO proud to be able to offer affordable preventative care to the families in our community. Keeping pets healthy and in their homes is just as important as finding homes for the animals in our shelter. ❤️

And because this is an animal shelter… there had to be a little plot twist. 😂

We had an unexpected intake of the tiniest little kitty with a broken front leg. 💔🐱 Of course, we couldn’t turn our backs on a baby in need, so this little one is now safely with us and will be getting the care they need.

All in all… a 10/10 day! 🙌🏼

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out, supported our clinic, and trusted us with your pets. We absolutely love being able to serve the animals AND families in our community. ❤️

Also another HUGE SHOUTOUT to Petco Love for the grant award to receive these vaccinations to be able to provide them to our community! Without you, this wouldn’t be possible🩷

🐾 The story of Riley! 🐾

Sweet Riley came to us almost 2 months ago, along with a tiny little puppy, through animal control. We fully vetted him, got him healthy, loved on him, and waited.

And waited.

And waited. 💔

Person after person passed him by.

Why?

Because Riley was “too basic.”
“Too pitty.”
“Too boring.”

And honestly? That breaks our hearts.

Because Riley doesn’t need to be flashy. He doesn’t need a special breed or a fancy story to deserve a family. He’s just a sweet, deserving dog who has been waiting for someone to see how special he really is. ❤️

But then… Champlain Valley Canine Rescue said, “We will take him!” 🥹

And suddenly, Riley’s story is changing.

He gets his chance. He gets to leave the shelter. He gets to find the family who will look at him and say, “That’s our dog.”

We are SO incredibly grateful to Champlain Valley Animal Rescue for seeing Riley. For choosing him. For giving a “basic” shelter dog a chance at the extraordinary life he deserves. 🐾❤️

Riley, your forever is finally on its way.

And to everyone who has ever overlooked a dog because they were “too common,” “too old,” “too big,” “too pitty,” or just “not special enough”…

Please remember: they don’t have to be special to you to deserve to be special to someone. ❤️

🐾 Happy National Dog Day from WPCCAS! 🐾

Today is a pretty easy day to celebrate around here because dogs are what we do. ❤️

From the neglected poodles who come through our doors needing a second chance, to the dogs who spend their days running, playing, and making friends in our playgroups — every single one deserves to feel safe, loved, and cared for.

At WPCCAS, care doesn’t stop at food, water, and a clean kennel. We believe in continuous care — medical attention, enrichment, socialization, playgroups, mental stimulation, cuddles, and simply letting dogs be DOGS. 🐶

Rain or shine, our dogs get to touch grass. They get to play. They get to socialize. They get to be loved.

Because shelter life shouldn’t mean a life without joy. ❤️

Happy National Dog Day to every dog who has come through our doors — the ones who found forever, the ones still waiting, and the ones who simply needed someone to believe in them.

Happy Tails Update: Chase → Jasper! 🐾❤️

We absolutely LOVE getting updates like this!

Chase, now Jasper, was one of the Chihuahuas from our 54-dog hoarding case. He came into our care needing a fresh start, and at the end of May, he found his way to New Hampshire and into the most wonderful family. 🥹❤️

His family says they love him so much and that their family simply wouldn’t be the same without him. He’s such an amazing dog, and his favorite thing in the whole world? Cuddling with his human sister. 🥰

Just think about that transformation.

A little dog who came from a heartbreaking hoarding situation, now sleeping comfortably in a home, surrounded by love, safety, and a little girl who thinks he’s the best cuddle buddy ever. ❤️

THIS is why we keep going.

Thank you to Jasper’s family for opening their hearts and giving him the life he always deserved. And thank you to our rescue partners who help us turn stories like his into happily-ever-afters. 🐾

From a hoarding case in Mississippi to a beloved family member in New Hampshire… look at you now, Jasper. ❤️

Here at WPCCAS, playgroups are our #1 priority. 🩷

Rain or shine, our dogs touch grass every. single. day. Every single dog. 🌱

No boring kennel life. No kennel craze. Just dogs being dogs. 🐾

Having fun.
Making friends.
Socializing.
Getting mental and physical enrichment.
Getting to decompress and just… be dogs.

Mental health in animals is not talked about nearly enough in a shelter setting. The stress, frustration, boredom, and overstimulation of kennel life are very real—and we refuse to accept that as “just how shelters are.”

We will never “drug” our way into submission.

Instead, the dogs are enriched. The dogs are loved. The dogs are given structure, exercise, socialization, and the opportunity to simply enjoy being a dog. ❤️

And our rescue partners can vouch for us: we have realllllly good dogs.

Trustworthy dogs.
SANE dogs.
Dogs who know how to exist around people, other dogs, and the world outside of a kennel.

Are we perfect? Absolutely not. We don’t have everything right.

But we have this.

And this is enough for us. 🩷

Because every dog deserves to touch grass, make friends, have fun, and remember that life is more than a kennel. 🐶🌱

No boring kennel life. Just dogs being dogs. 🩷

SHORTCAKE UPDATE! 🥹❤️

Remember our sweet Shortcake?!

Well… this girl hit the JACKPOT. She was adopted through our friends at Motley Mutts Rescue and is now living her absolute BEST life as Ms. Lullabelle! 👑🐾

And her family keeps sending us the sweetest updates. ❤️

“She is by far the calmest, easiest dog ever! She sleeps in bed with us and has 2 old lady siblings (dogs lol) that she is so patient with.”

She gets dry food with broth mixed with wet food, omega 3 oil, and a joint supplement. She gets 3–4 walks every day and apparently has a nightly spa routine where she gets her teeth brushed, paw balm applied, and a little BioSilk spray-down. 😂🧖‍♀️

And then came the latest update:

“Great, still perfection. I heard a tiny bark from her the other day which was surprising.”

Oh sweet girl, you are so silly!😂😂😂

She has also had NOT ONE SINGLE ACCIDENT IN THE HOUSE! 👏🏼

There have, however, been four lost remotes. 😂

But according to her family, that’s apparently her dad’s fault for leaving them on the couch and tempting her. 😇

Honestly? We support her.

From a shelter dog to a spoiled, pampered, bed-sleeping, spa-loving couch queen with two old-lady sisters, 3–4 walks a day, gourmet meals, and a family who absolutely adores her. 👑❤️

THIS is why we rescue.

This is why we advocate for the animals who may have been overlooked.

Shortcake didn’t just get adopted. She got a family who is spoiling her rotten — exactly as she deserves. 🥹
