🐾 Dudley Wants to Talk About Outdoor Pets 🐾

One question we get a lot is:

❓ “Why don’t you adopt dogs to outdoor-only homes?”
❓ “Why don’t you adopt kittens to be outdoor cats?”

Because every week, we see the consequences. 💔

🚗 Hit by cars
🐕 Attacked by other animals
🦠 Exposed to disease
☠️ Poisoned
🔥 Suffering in extreme weather
🦟 Heartworms, fleas, ticks, and parasites
🏃 Escaping and never finding their way home

For puppies and kittens, the risks are even greater. They’re babies. They don’t understand danger, and their immune systems are still developing. ❤️

Can dogs and cats survive outdoors? Sure.

But surviving and thriving are two very different things.

Most dogs want to be with their people. Most cats live longer, healthier lives when safely indoors. That’s why we look for homes where our animals are family members—not just pets that happen to live outside. 🏡✨

Are there exceptions? Absolutely! Some working dogs and barn cats genuinely thrive in outdoor environments. We evaluate those situations on a case-by-case basis.

At the end of the day, our goal isn’t to make adoption harder—it’s to give these animals the safest, happiest life possible. ❤️🐾

And if you ask Dudley?

🐶 “Arooooo!”

Translation:

🛋️ “I’d prefer a couch, please.”

Our sweet boy Loki finally got his shot out of the shelter! After completing heartworm treatment, this energetic pup was patiently waiting for the right family to come along. Loki needed someone who could keep up with his adventurous spirit and give him the active life he deserved.

Then came Jake. ❤️

It was instant love! These two were a perfect match from the very beginning, and Loki is absolutely thriving in his new home. From shelter life to his happily-ever-after, we couldn’t be more excited for this deserving boy.

Stories like Loki’s remind us why we do what we do. Every adoption changes a life—not just for the animal, but for the person who opens their heart and home.

Congratulations, Loki and Jake! 🎉🐶 We can’t wait to see all the adventures ahead for you both!!

🎉🐾 Forever Friday at WPCCAS! 🐾🎉

This week, 4 cats and 28 dogs made their way one step closer to forever homes! ❤️

We started the week with our litter of four “space”-themed kittens hitching a ride with the ASPCA thanks to our friends at OCHS! 🚀🐱

Then tonight, we had two rescue trips happen!

First up, Rescued Rascals is getting our GIRL!!! 🩷 Gorgina finally made it out! After undergoing heartworm treatment and patiently waiting for her chance, this sweet girl finally got her happy ending. We are so incredibly grateful! They are also taking two of our Shar Pei/Bully mix babies, Saffron and Scout. Happy tails, sweet ones! 🐾

And of course, Jack’s Playground got in on the action! Well… they actually ARE the action! 🎉

Let’s give a huge shoutout to Cane, our sweet senior hound who sat in two shelters for months waiting for someone to notice him. Now it’s his time to shine! 🌟 Joining him are a litter of pittie puppies, our sweet girl Benelli (who we pulled from the euthanasia list!), Violet, a local owner surrender, Madeleine (another local owner surrender), and two special puppies, including one born with a condition called parrot mouth. We are so excited for all of them! ❤️

And to wrap things up, we have 13 puppies headed out bright and early tomorrow morning for Massachusetts! 🚌🐶

A huge shoutout to the ASPCA and OCHS for always helping us save lives and create opportunities for these animals. We couldn’t do it without you! 🩷

Safe travels and happy tails to:

🐾 Ezekiel
🐾 Easton
🐾 Pineapple
🐾 Ginger
🐾 Gwen

🐾 Alora
🐾 Avery

Every transport, every rescue pull, and every adoption represents another life saved and another kennel opened for an animal in need. This is why partnerships matter. This is why rescue matters. And this is why we never stop fighting for them. ❤️🐾

Congratulations to all 32 of these precious lives. Your next chapter starts now. 🏡✨🐶🐱💙

💙Meet Auburn: A Puppy Stronger Than We Will Ever Be💙

Auburn is a 4.5-month-old neutered Shar Pei/Bully breed mix puppy who is overflowing with love, joy, and puppy energy. While all of his siblings have found their forever homes, Auburn remains at the shelter, fighting a battle they never had to face😩…

Auburn has been diagnosed with a Grade 5/6 heart murmur.

Based on our veterinary experience and consultations, we estimate Auburn may have anywhere from 6–12 months left. Good months. Happy months. Months filled with toys, belly rubs, treats, adventures, and love. While miracles do happen, it is likely that this congenital heart condition will ultimately be the cause of his passing💔…

As heartbreaking as that reality is, Auburn is not ready to give up—and neither are we.

At this time, we are not pursuing euthanasia because Auburn is still enjoying life. He plays, loves, snuggles, and greets each day like the happy puppy he is. Though he is much smaller than his siblings, his spirit is larger than life. He wants to live, and we believe he deserves the chance to do just that💙!!

What we want most is to find Auburn a family of his own—someone willing to love him for however long he has, whether that’s a few months or 12 years!! We want him to know what it feels like to have a home, a couch to nap on, and people who call him theirs🐾.

If you are interested in giving Auburn that chance, please contact us. We would love to see him adopted or welcomed by a rescue that understands his condition and is willing to cherish every moment with him. He may only have months left, but he also might just be that one-in-a-million story that surprises us all🩺💙!!!

If you would like to help with Auburn’s ongoing medical care, donations are greatly appreciated.
🐾 Donations can be made through the link on our website (wpccas.org) or directly to the shelter!

Please share Auburn’s story. Let’s make sure this sweet boy’s life is filled with love, no matter how much time he has.

Because Auburn doesn’t need a lifetime.

He just needs someone willing to make his lifetime matter💙

🐾💕 Motivation Monday at WPCCAS 💕🐾

Meet Iceland, Finland, and Scotland 🌎🐱

These three tiny babies didn’t have the easiest start in life. When they arrived at WPCCAS, they were in terrible condition—suffering from severe upper respiratory infections, underweight, and far too young to be on their own.

But sometimes all it takes is someone refusing to give up on you. ❤️

For the past several weeks, these kittens have practically been raised from behind Jessie’s desk. Between meetings, phone calls, paperwork, and the daily chaos of shelter life, she’s been administering medications, monitoring every sneeze, celebrating every ounce gained, and making sure these babies got exactly what they needed to survive.

And look at them now. 🥹✨

Their eyes are brighter. Their bodies are stronger. Their personalities are starting to shine. What once looked like three sick, fragile kittens are now three happy babies with a future ahead of them.

Their transformation is a reminder that progress doesn’t happen all at once. It happens one day at a time. One meal. One treatment. One act of kindness. One person believing you’re worth the effort.

💕 Motivation Monday reminder: Don’t judge your progress by where you want to be. Look at how far you’ve already come.

Iceland, Finland, and Scotland still have some growing to do, but they’ve already overcome so much—and we couldn’t be more proud of them.

Stay tuned for more glow-up photos of these little world travelers. We have a feeling their best days are still ahead!🐾🌎💕

🐾❤️ Support Local Saturday ❤️🐾

This Saturday, we want to highlight two very deserving dogs who hit especially close to home.

Duke and Riley were recently owner-surrendered to us by a family right here in Clay County. Through no fault of their own, these boys are now looking for something every dog deserves: a second chance, a brighter future, and a fresh start.

🐶 Duke 🐶

Duke is a 1.5-year-old Anatolian Shepherd mix who has spent his entire life in a farm-style setting. He will be neutered prior to adoption and is already fully vaccinated, dewormed, and current on preventatives.

Believe it or not, Duke is HEARTWORM NEGATIVE! 🎉 For an outdoor dog in the South, that’s almost unheard of.

This sweet boy is still learning what a leash is, but he is making progress every single day. Due to his breed and background, prior livestock guardian experience is required for local adoption, along with an approved application.

🐶 Riley 🐶

Sweet, handsome Riley has spent his entire life alongside Duke. This 2.5-year-old Black Lab mix is tall, dark, and handsome 🤩 and if you ask nicely, he may even flash you his famous smile 🙂‍↔️.

Riley is everything you could want in a companion—gentle, loving, and eager for affection. Unfortunately, heartworms didn’t skip over this big guy. 💔 Riley is heartworm positive, but that does NOT change his future here. He is receiving the care he needs and is well on his way to recovery.

Both of these boys are still adjusting to shelter life. We’ve given them a few days to decompress before introducing them to our certified dog testers (special shoutout to Bethany and Smiley, who are also available for adoption! 🐾).

If you’re local and looking for a loyal companion, please consider giving Duke or Riley the fresh start they deserve. Share their story, spread the word, and help us find these Clay County boys the loving homes they’ve been waiting for. ❤️

🏡 Duke and Riley are also available for rescue commitment!

At the end of the day, we simply want what’s best for these boys. They have spent their entire lives in a home, and they don’t deserve to spend months living in a shelter kennel waiting for another chance. Whether through adoption or rescue, our goal is to get them into loving homes as quickly as possible where they can settle in, feel safe, and be part of a family again.
