๐Ÿ’™ Warrior Wednesday: Meet Carter! ๐Ÿ’™

Carter was diagnosed with a large omphalocele at just 12 weeks gestation, containing his liver, intestines, and spleen. His family was given little hope that the pregnancy would make it to 20 weeks but Carter had other plans! ๐Ÿ’ช

He made it to 39 weeks and spent 56 days in the NICU. Using the Duoderm โ€œchip clipโ€ method, Carter underwent closure surgery at just over a month old. Despite a difficult recovery and another surgery at three months old, Carter continued to show just how strong an O Warrior can be. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’› Warrior Wednesday: Meet Charleigh Rae ๐Ÿ’›

Charleigh is a true warrior princess. Born at just 30 weeks with a ruptured omphalocele, she was later diagnosed with Pentalogy of Cantrell and Tetralogy of Fallot.

Her journey has included countless surgeries, a trach and ventilator, ECMO, CRRT, and an incredible 511 days in the hospital. Despite being told she may not survive, Charleigh continued to prove everyone wrong. ๐Ÿ’ช

Today, sheโ€™s home, thriving, walking, and sharing her spunky personality and contagious smile with everyone around her. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’™ Warrior Wednesday: Meet Sevyn ๐Ÿ’™

Diagnosed with a giant omphalocele at just 16 weeks, Sevyn's family faced heartbreaking odds and was even advised to end the pregnancy. Instead, they chose hope.

After a complex NICU journey that included multiple intubations, a tracheostomy, a pulmonary hypertension crisis, 14 days on ECMO, and eight months in the hospital, Sevyn proved just how strong O Warriors can be.

Today, he's home, thriving, his ASD has closed on its own, his pulmonary hypertension has resolved, and he's continuing to make incredible progress.

๐Ÿ’™ Did You Know?

Some NICUs offer a Primary Nurse and Associate Nurse program, allowing your baby to have familiar faces caring for them throughout their hospital stay. While it isn't always possible due to scheduling, having a consistent nursing team can provide comfort, build trust, and help families feel more supported during their NICU journey.

If you're expecting a NICU stay, ask your care team if this is something your hospital offers. It never hurts to ask!

We'd love to hear from you! ๐Ÿ’™ Share a photo of your favorite NICU nurses in the comments and tell us how they made a difference in your family's journey.

๐Ÿ’™ Warrior Wednesday: Meet Luke ๐Ÿ’™

At 20 weeks, Luke's family received a devastating diagnosis of a giant omphalocele and uncertain prognosis. Through months of uncertainty, a 94-day NICU stay, multiple surgeries, and an incredible repair at age four, Luke has shown what resilience truly looks like.

Today, he's a thriving eight-year-old who loves reading, hiking, animals, and spending time with friends. His journey is a powerful reminder that hope can grow even in the hardest moments.

โœจ Friday Facts โœจ

Did you know that omphaloceles occur in approximately 1 in every 5,000โ€“10,000 live births? ๐Ÿ’™

Omphaloceles can vary greatly in size and are often grouped into three categories:
๐Ÿ”น Small โ€“ Typically contains only a portion of the intestines.
๐Ÿ”น Large/Giant โ€“ Contains most of the liver and other abdominal organs.

Every O Warrior's journey is unique, and no matter the size or type, each one is incredibly strong. ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ’ฌ We'd love to hear from our community! Which category did your O Warrior fall into? Share in the comments below and help raise awareness for omphalocele.
