FOPF needs help in clearing trails. Please see below info and contacts in Pachaug SF Hi everyone -
I hope you've all recovered from our recent storm and had a wonderful holiday filled with joy and cheer.
As you can probably imagine, that storm did quite a number on our trails in the forest as well as all the damage many of us saw close to home and on all the roads. Our trail crew is trying to keep up with reports of downed trees and cleaning up trails so we can all continue to enjoy the forest, but we can certainly use some help after that storm as the backlog is growing daily and we still have a good amount of forest we haven't had a chance to scout yet to know the conditions. The trail crew has cleared more than 90 trees since the storm from trails and still have more to do.
Please let us know if you are out on any trails in the forest and what the conditions are by emailing us at [email protected]. If easier, you can also text Sharon at 860-303-7320 with a trail report. It would be very helpful to know the route you were on (Oh yes, we love photos of your all trails, strava, garmin, etc. route maps!) and the condition, even if the trail is clear and looks good - saves us from having to walk it. If you do come upon a downed tree or other sort of obstacle, please take a picture and mark where on the trail - For example, drop a google maps pin, bring up your route in your app with your spot marked and take a screenshot, etc. and send that along to us. The more details the better!
Example of a good report:
- [Image attached of tree] Saw this tree on the blue Pachaug Trail just up from the CCC trail entrance behind the flagpole. [image attached with marker] The tree is approximately 8 inches in diameter.
Example of a difficult to clear report (and yes we get these):
There's a tree down on the blue trail.
While we will certainly take any and all reports, the first one is much more helpful and will help us clear the trail quicker and more efficiently. It helps us determine what tools to bring, best point of entry, and helps with overall planning in case there are a few trees near each other.
Thank you for all the help and support throughout the year and the future. I think we can all agree we are so blessed to have such a bountiful forest right in our backyards and we all want to keep it usable and beautiful for years to come!
