Congrats to the four winners of ASTM's 2026 Graduate Scholarships 👨‍🎓

Saeed Davar a doctoral student in civil engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Awetehagn Gebremariam is a doctoral student in civil engineering at Colorado State University.

Puleng Moshele, originally from Lesotho, is a doctoral candidate in environmental health with the industrial hygiene track at the University of Minnesota.

Suleiman Muktari a doctoral researcher in mechanical and materials engineering at Florida International University

These days lighters includes rechargeable arc lighters powered by lithium-ion batteries, compact torches with continuous-burn flames, and a growing range of products that fall somewhere between the traditional categories. The existing safety standards weren’t designed to address these new options.

ASTM's Subcommittee on Safety Standards for Lighters is working to close that gap.
