🏆 WENDELL CHESS CLUB'S FIRST OFFICIALLY RATED TOURNAMENT!

We’re excited to host Wendell Chess Club’s first officially rated tournament scheduled for Saturday, September 12!

Registration:
💵 Early Registration: $20 — August 27 through September 6
💵 After September 6: $25
💵 Day of Tournament: $30

If you register early and would like to pay cash, please select that payment option. We will have a running list of when people register and we will collect $20 from you day of or if we see you before the tournament. (Same if you register between September 7-11, and you would like to pay cash, we will collect $25 from you instead of $30)

Registration fees go toward the tournament prize pool and club materials* (prize is based off of percentage of people that register). First place in each section will win cash, second place prize will be items donated to the club.

Have you ever wanted to play in a chess tournament but weren't sure what to expect? This is the perfect opportunity to experience tournament chess in a fun, welcoming environment before we begin hosting officially rated tournaments.

If you're a strong chess player but haven't had the chance to compete in a tournament, we encourage you to come see what tournament play is all about. If you've played in tournaments before, we'd love to have you join us too. Come compete, have fun, and help make it a great day for everyone!

We want to connect anyone that would like to improve their chess game seriously with amazing coaches.

Our friend, GM Elshan Moradiabadi is a nationally recognized chess coach, author, and advocate. Most recently he co-won the 2022 US Open, plus the 2022 Chess Journalist of the Year award for his contributions to Chess Life Magazine and other publications. He is also the co-author of Sherlock’s Method, a popular chess book for players aiming to increase their rating from around 1700 OTB to 2300+. He most frequently coaches kids, adults, and other master-level players.

Elshan's fall online chess registration is now open! Limited spots are available! If you would like to sign up, you can contact him on his website gmelshan.com or by email [email protected].

We had one of our biggest turnouts this past meeting! We're so happy to see a lot of people interested in playing chess. Every seat was filled infront of the boards! We hope to continue seeing new faces and of course we appreciate those that come out to play every week! It does mean a lot to us to see the chess community growing.
