At Wendell Chess Club, we welcome players of all ages and skill levels-from absolute beginners to experienced competitors. We meet every Tuesday, 6PM, Bearded Bee Brewing Co.

If your child has ever wanted to learn how to play chess, this is the perfect opportunity to get started.

🎓 FREE Introductory Absolute Beginner Chess Lesson Session

📅 Saturday, June 20, 2026
⏰ 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
📍 Wendell United Methodist Church

Designed for students ages 8–17 with little to no chess experience, this class will cover:

♟️ Chessboard setup
♟️ How the pieces move
♟️ Check and checkmate
♟️ Basic opening principles
♟️ Fundamental chess strategy
♟️ How to play a complete game

Chess helps students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, concentration, patience, and confidence-all while having fun.

Wendell Chess Club is excited to offer our FREE Introductory Absolute Beginner Chess Lesson Session for students ages 8–17!

Our last meeting had a great turnout with both new faces and familiar ones. We love seeing our chess community continue to grow!

♟️ Warning: Reading Chess Books May Improve Your Rating 📚😂

Join us Tuesday, May 26 at Bearded Bee Brewing Co. for another fun night of chess and our special Chess Book Exchange event.

Bring your chess books that you no longer need and trade them with other players in the community. Opening books, tactics, puzzles, strategy, beginner books-all chess books are welcome.

Don’t have any books to bring? No problem. We’ll still have some available to take home for free while supplies last.

New players and experienced players alike are welcome, so come hang out with us, get a few games in, and maybe leave with a new chess book to study.
