As a Literacy AmeriCorps Member, you'll have the opportunity to serve in local schools, libraries, and community organizations, helping learners build the skills they need to succeed.

We have much to celebrate at our Glades Family Education program! This multigenerational literacy program supports the whole family—offering adult English classes, an on-site preschool, weekly PACT (Parent and Child Together) activities, monthly parenting workshops, and quarterly family nights. Recently, we had the joy of celebrating our preschool students at their "Royal Kingdom" graduation! We are so proud of all they’ve learned and know they’ve built a strong foundation to thrive in kindergarten and beyond. We were also honored to recognize the parents who play such an important role in their children’s success. Not only are they working hard in their own classes to build skills for further education and career advancement, but they are also modeling the value of learning every day at home and making a difference for the next generation.

What an exciting night for the Literacy Coalition as we were selected as a finalist for a Men Giving Back (MGB) grant at the MGB spring social. Thank you to Bob Tucker, Alex Price, Dr. Nathan Naclas, Ed Ventrice, Billy Marino and all the MGB members for generously supporting nonprofits making a difference in the southern part of PBC. Congratulations to the other nonprofits selected, and good to be with many nonprofit partners and friends.

The Literacy Coalition hosted a training for our pediatric partners with support from Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County, HomeSafe and 211 HelpLine. Thank you to our presenters from those organizations and also our Coalition team: Dr. Regine Bataille, Molly Felmet and Maria Soto.

As part of our Early Literacy book distribution program, the Coalition provides more than 100,000 new, developmentally appropriate books to children ages birth to 5 through partnerships with 45 pediatric clinics and 12 community providers in CSC's Healthy Beginnings system of care. During pediatric well-child doctor visits, pediatricians talk with families about the importance of early literacy, language development, and reading aloud to children from birth while using books to encourage book-sharing at home. As part of our efforts, every baby born in a Palm Beach County hospital receives a book to take home to begin their own home library.

Thank you to the kind and thoughtful residents of the Polo Club in Boca Raton for a generous donation from their Foundation to the Literacy Coalition to support our efforts in the southern part of the county to help students improve their reading skills and to help children find the joy in reading. We are grateful!

We extend a huge THANK YOU to the BallenIsles Charities Foundation, made up of members and residents of BallenIsles Country Club, who raised a record $1,571,000 to grant to local charities including the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County. This support will allow us to continue our efforts and increase our impact in the northern part of the county through our Building Better Readers program: https://www.literacypbc.org/literacy-impact/childrens-literacy-programs/building-better-readers/

Since the BallenIsles Charities Foundation’s inception in 2011, more than $11.3 million has been awarded to benefit local Palm Beach County community organizations.

Thanks to the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce for the great recognition of the Literacy Coalition's impact in the northern part of PBC. We were honored as a finalist for Nonprofit of the Year. We were in good company with our partner - and congratulations to the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties - and the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches. It was a wonderful night celebrating business and community leaders making a difference. Great to have board members and supporters Garry and Regine Bataille, Sharon Hill, Laurie Leinwand Gildan, Bernadette O'Grady, Ken Montgomery, Ryan McCarthy, and our dedicated staff: Kristin Calder, Megan Cole Wiston, Christopher Thompson and Maria Soto in the room!
