Last year we received over 12 calls on wounded bears and we had to tell the hunters sorry. Fortunately, Wyoming legalized the use of a leashed tracking dog on July 1st, 2026 to recover black bears. Many times a bear won’t leave much sign for the hunter to track and they seem to always go into the thicket. You can walk 10 feet from them and not see em. This bear was this morning and made it 400 yards from the shot site. Hunters looked for it all day yesterday. Lucy was standing on him in 10 minutes. That’s how valuable a trained leashed tracking dog can be..

Tracking team Lyndsey and Sisu responded to a request for a collared deer in Colorado. The deer is alive and well, but to echo Lyndsey's remarks of the track, we as tracking teams get to not only see our dogs work, but we also get to see some of the most beautiful places in the west!

🐾 Another RMBGR Annual Training & Certification Event is in the books! 🐾

A huge THANK YOU to every tracking team who joined Rocky Mountain Big Game Recovery in Wyoming for this year’s annual event!

This event was all about building better tracking teams through hands-on experience, mock tracks, real-world scenarios, and one-on-one guidance from experienced mentors. Whether teams were preparing for certification, sharpening existing skills, or simply looking to learn something new, we were proud to see everyone show up ready to work, learn, and support one another.

Events like this strengthen more than individual teams—they strengthen our entire tracking community and help us provide hunters with knowledgeable, prepared teams when recovery matters most.

Thank you to our mentors for sharing your experience, to everyone who helped make the weekend possible, and especially to the handlers and dogs who put in the work. We’re excited to see these teams take what they learned in Wyoming and put it to work this tracking season! 🦌🐕‍🦺

Rocky Mountain Big Game Recovery: The Season Starts Now 🦌🐾

And what a way to kick it off!

Our newest—and already highly impressive—tracking team, Kylie & Cedar, came out of the gate swinging with the first recovery of the season for the network… and their very first call and recovery EVER!

Just six months ago, Kylie and Cedar stepped into this world of tracking, and they have since dove headfirst into learning, training, and building their skills. To see that dedication turn into a successful recovery on their very first call is something we couldn’t be more proud of.

We are incredibly excited to officially have this dynamic duo on the team and can’t wait to see what this season brings for them. 💪🏼

Congratulations, Kylie & Cedar! What an incredible way to start your tracking journey—and an even better way to kick off another season of helping hunters find closure. 🐾❤️

Mile High Expo did not disappoint this year!

Our chapter had an incredible turnout in Denver, CO—filled with great conversations, meaningful connections, and even better company (both human & dog 🐾). It’s always rewarding to be surrounded by people who share the same passion for ethical hunting and the role of game recovery dogs in the field.

Grateful for everyone who stopped by, shared stories, and supported what we do. Already looking forward to next year!
