This Is Weldon. 💙

Where the river slows things down, stories run deep, and every sunset feels a little different than the last.

The Roanoke River has shaped Weldon's history for generations and continues to be one of the community's greatest treasures. Whether you're fishing, paddling, exploring the riverfront, or simply taking in the view, there's something special about life along the water.

We truly enjoyed having Mr. Quentin Jones, Director, Parks and Recreation for Halifax County, speak at our last WIA meeting. We can help EXPAND recreation access in all of our towns. One way is by sharing our (sometimes vacant or hardly used) spaces. Come to a SHARED USE meeting on June 8th, REGISTER by June 3rd, LUNCH is provided, so they need a count. Co-hosted by NC State Extension. Building Community Together!

Now that's a pretty fish!

Howard Bowles was fly fishing the Roanoke River earlier this month with his friend—and trusty Lab—Josie when he hooked something special 🎣🐾
A red-tagged Striped Bass took the bait! The fish was tagged in May 2023—just 9 days short of the 3-year mark and grew 4.5 inches.
Not a bad day on the water, with a bonus $100 surprise 💵👏

History.. .for the kids and for everyone

Have you heard of Sarah Keys Evans?

In 1952, three years before Rosa Parks made history, a young African-American Army private named Sarah Keys Evans refused to give up her seat on a bus in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Her courageous stand led to a landmark 1955 Interstate Commerce Commission ruling that helped dismantle segregation in interstate bus travel.

Strong communities are built because generations before us sacrificed for something bigger than themselves.

Today, we remember the heroes who gave everything for our country. We honor their service, reflect on their sacrifice, and carry gratitude with us always. 🇺🇸
