During the second battle of Fallujah, Corporal Dale Allen Burger, Jr., led his squad through close-quarters combat until he was shot in the arm and evacuated. Just three days later, he returned to the fight. When some of his Marines were trapped inside an enemy-infested house, Cpl Burger rushed in to rescue them. He was shot again in the effort, this time fatally. For his incredible bravery and heroic actions, Cpl Burger was posthumously awarded the Silver Star.

We are heartbroken by the loss of four U.S. service members who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash near Joint Base Lewis-McChord on Wednesday, September 17. These brave Night Stalkers gave their lives in service to our nation, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
