2,000+ pounds and countless reasons to be grateful 💚

We wrapped up our final official harvest of the season with 396 pounds of sweet potatoes — plus another 55 pounds of other fresh produce, including squash, peppers, eggplant, and carrots.

That means HOPE GROWS COMMUNITY GARDEN DONATED MORE THAN 2,000 POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE in its inaugural year! This produce helped provide nutritious food to people facing food insecurity right here in our local community.

A small but mighty group of volunteers spent the morning digging, sorting, and gathering hundreds of pounds of sweet potatoes. It was the kind of work that leaves you dirty, tired, and a little sore, but incredibly satisfied.

Our first season brought many successes, a few bumps, and plenty of lessons we’ll carry into next year. Most of all, it showed us what can happen when a community comes together with willing hands, generous hearts, and a shared purpose.

We are so grateful for every person who gave their time, energy, encouragement, and support this season — and most of all, grateful to God for His provision and for allowing this little garden to bless so many in our community.

Now we’ll put the garden to rest for the winter and start looking ahead to spring. 🌱

What an incredible first season. 💚

Our first season at Hope Grows Community Garden is beginning to wind down, and what a wonderful season it has been. 💚

Last week, our wonderful volunteers harvested another 80 pounds of fresh produce to share with neighbors in need throughout our community.

Now we’re ready to harvest our last large crop of the season—our sweet potatoes!

Tomorrow morning at 8am, we’ll be digging up our sweet potato patch, along with harvesting squash, peppers, and a few other items.

We’d love to have you join us!
No gardening experience is needed—just come ready to get your hands in the dirt and help us finish our first season strong.

Our amazing and hardworking volunteers harvested 226 pounds last Monday—likely one of our last large harvests of the season. Nearly 100 pounds of it was butternut squash! This brought our season total to more than 1,500 pounds donated! 💚

As cooler weather arrives and our first growing season winds down, we’ve been reflecting with gratitude on a fulfilling and productive first season. We’ll continue smaller harvests for a little longer, with one big harvest still ahead—our sweet potatoes! They’re still growing strong (see the photo above), and we can’t wait to see what’s waiting for us underground.

We’ll be in the garden this Monday morning at 8am if you’d like to join us!

🌱 We had another great harvest at Hope Grows Community Garden this week—222 pounds of fresh produce! Although the growing season is winding down, our garden is still producing plenty to share with our community.

One of our biggest harvests right now is butternut squash. Delicious and nutritious, butternut is considered a winter squash—but it’s actually grown during the summer! Its hard outer rind allows it to be stored and enjoyed throughout the winter months.

We love seeing how a summer harvest can continue feeding our community long after the growing season ends. 💚

Join us for our next harvest this Monday at 8 AM!

🌱 OVER 1,000 POUNDS DONATED! 🌱

Our volunteers harvested 292 pounds of fresh produce this week at Hope Grows Community Garden! That brings us to more than 1,000 pounds donated to help feed the food insecure in our community in our very first season 💚

We are so grateful to God for His abundant provision and to our amazing crew of volunteers who have planted, watered, weeded, harvested and cared for this garden all season long. What a blessing to see how much this garden has produced for our community!

We’ve had a few challenges along the way. A fungus recently hit our beans, so we had to pull and dispose of most of the plants to keep it from spreading. Thankfully, there is still plenty growing. Squash, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, pumpkins, cucumbers and watermelon are still producing — and we have a big sweet potato harvest still to come!

💚 Come join us this Monday at 8 AM — all are welcome! 💚

🌱 Another big harvest at Hope Grows Community Garden!

This week we harvested 115 pounds of vegetables plus 18 pounds of ornamental pumpkins — bringing us to nearly 800 pounds of fresh vegetables donated to the Haywood Christian Ministry’s Smoky Mountain Harvest Hub to help feed our food-insecure neighbors. 💚

And we still have a lot left to harvest!

Our Three Sisters Garden was the last area we planted, and it’s finally hitting its stride. We’re getting an abundance of butternut squash and Mountaineer White Half Runner beans. The Painted Mountain corn didn’t fare quite as well 😂 … the beans completely overtook the corn, leaving the stalks buried under massive piles of vines. Lesson learned: next year we’ll try a hardier corn variety and give it a bigger head start before planting the beans.

This first season has been a huge learning curve, but we’re incredibly grateful for how well it has turned out. We’ve grown a multitude of different crops and produced a significant amount of fresh food from our little garden — all in our very first year.

We’ll make some adjustments next year, but that’s part of the fun of growing — there’s always something new to learn, and continuous learning keeps us young! 🌱💚

Hope Grows is bursting with life—and it’s beautiful! 🌻🌱

The garden is lush and full, with so much growing right now! The vegetables we’re currently harvesting include summer and winter squash, several kinds of peppers—green, banana, cayenne and jalapeño—and bush, pole and greasy beans, just to name a few!

It’s not just the vegetables that are flourishing. Our marigolds, sunflowers and wildflowers are in full bloom, creating a beautiful network of color and welcoming bees, butterflies and other pollinators. It’s a sweet reminder of the abundance of God’s creation—and such a special time to be in the garden.

Come see it for yourself! Join us tomorrow (Monday) at 8 AM to spend the morning harvesting with us and help bring in more fresh produce for our community. We’d love to have you!

We had a wonderful group of volunteers out at the garden Monday morning, including members of the Haywood County Gleaners and Mountain View Garden Club. The mist made for a cool, crisp morning—perfect for harvesting! 🌱

And what a harvest it was! Together, we picked 287 pounds of fresh produce—bush and pole beans, cucumbers, summer and winter squash, peppers, eggplant, watermelons, herbs, and even edible pumpkins! 🍉🫛🥒🎃🍆

Everything went to the Smoky Mountain Harvest Hub to help serve food-insecure individuals and families throughout our community.

We’re so grateful for everyone who came out to lend a hand. It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we work together—and Monday morning was a beautiful example of that!

Every time I walk through this garden, I'm amazed.

Just a few months ago, this was an empty field. Today it's filled with ripening vegetables, blooming flowers, busy pollinators, and signs of God's incredible design everywhere I look.

It truly never stops feeling miraculous.

Come join our wonderful volunteer group this Monday at 8:00 AM as we harvest fresh vegetables to donate to the Smoky Mountain Harvest Hub. We'd love to have you!
