Interesting discussion by Beim. Grandmasters sometimes choose to run the risk of playing for long term static advantages. Risky for them because of the temporary dynamic advantages given to their GM opponents. But at the club level, it is probably a wise practical decision based on the fact that club level players will have a difficult time producing the correct continuation to take advantage of the temporary dynamic advantage. Chess can sadly be quite different at such disparate levels.
