It was announced today that J. Craig Venter passed away. Craig was a power user of Applied Biosystems' products, starting before my tenure with DNA sequencers. Most of his seminal papers pioneering sh***un sequencing of genomes, utilized our products and his influence spurred revenue generation during the early days of genomics. His involvement at Celera Genomics, was a driver behind the development of the 3700 DNA sequencer. And that created an arms race to sequence the human genome. The rest is history.
