Something to start off the summer fun:
The Art Council is getting ready to kick off some summer fun with our annual chalk drawing competition, Art at the Station, which is happening this year on Saturday, June 6, in the parking lot of the Greyhound bus station.
Artists can begin drawing anytime after 7:00 a.m. and work until 11:30 a.m. when the drawing stops and judging begins. Winners will be awarded prizes at noon. It's free to enter and there's no age limit! You also don't have to be an "artist" to enter, just someone who loves to draw. First, second and third place cash prizes are awarded in five age categories. Or, just draw for fun without entering the competition. The Council even provides chalk!
This event is not just about chalk drawing on the pavement. In the past there's been a free, fun drum circle from 11:30 to noon (while the judges work) that everyone can participate in, some spots for graffiti, places for spectators to watch the creations progress, and plein air painters who have set up around the parking lot to capture the local Waverly scenery on canvas.
Since the Art Council is a nonprofit organization, we depend on the generosity of the public to fund our projects. You can help us with this project by donating any amount to the prize fund. Or, you can sponsor an entire age category. The total amounts for each age category are $30 (x2), $45, $60, and $110. All donors will be recognized.
