Looking for Volunteers: We are cleaning and organizing the feed and tool rooms and need volunteers who would love to share their organization talents!

We also need help with grooming and taking photos of our adoptable animals and helping us with digital marketing to help us adopt them out to good homes!

Lastly, RIDERS! We are looking for experienced riders to volunteer to help us keep the horses ridden. Western riding experience preferred but if you are a good rider that is what matters the most!

Ever have one of those weeks where you just need a break? A break from school starting, a break from work, a break from being a caregiver, a break from life?

That’s one of our favorite things about riding here.

Once you head into the trees, the noise fades away. Before long it’s just you, your horse, and miles of beautiful forest trails.

We see it all the time. People start the ride chatting about work and life, and by the end they’re smiling, relaxed, and already asking when they can come back.

We had to make a hard choice to lay Stella Blue to rest this morning. Her prolapse came back and there was nothing more the vet could do. Was a real tough one for us putting down such a young dog. See you at the rainbow bridge Stella Blue 🥺🤍🌈

On a hot night like tonight, the crickets are running fast — and they're doing math for you. A cricket's chirp is driven by muscle chemistry that speeds up and slows down with the air temperature, so precisely that in 1897 a physicist named Amos Dolbear published a formula for it, and "the cricket as a thermometer" has been in farmers' almanacs ever since. The backyard version couldn't be simpler: count one cricket's chirps for fourteen seconds, add forty, and you've got the temperature in Fahrenheit, usually within a degree or two. The snowy tree cricket — the soft, steady chirper in the hedges — is the most accurate of the lot; the field crickets run a little hot and loose. Step out before bed, pick out one steady voice, and check it against the porch thermometer. On a night this warm, you won't be counting slowly. Going to try it tonight?
