Join us in celebrating our 2025 WTA Friend of Education: the Governor Nelson Dewey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This local women's service organization has performed a self-written readers' theater play for students at Waunakee Intermediate School for the past 2 years. In the words of member & nominator, Gretchen Kessler, “This group is special because they come to our school for an entire day and perform a dramatic play, multiple times; complete with costumes, props, and instruments to teach all 5th grade students about the importance of women during the Revolutionary time period of the founding of our nation. This performance brings the greater community into our schools and supports the state standards as we analyze the contributions of individuals, groups, and events and why their contributions are important to history.”

For 16 consecutive years, Wisconsin kids have been given state budgets that have failed to keep pace with inflation. It’s time to end the cycle of inadequate funding and restore our commitment – and our constitutional obligation – to our children. Let’s close the special education funding gap, restore adequate state aid, and pass a budget that gives EVERY student in every public school equal opportunity to thrive. Budget action starts with you! https://secure.everyaction.com/9b0TylpickCnZOHjQXD2Ww2

2025 Spring Election information
Q1: "We are seeing a steep increase in the mental health needs of our students which far exceed the support and training staff are able to provide. What additional supports might be considered to help meet this need and what are your thoughts on making alternative education placement available to students earlier than 9th grade?"
Q2: "The landscape of education has changed rapidly and continues to change in dynamic ways because of advancements in technology, residual effects of a pandemic, etc. How will you work to deepen your understanding of the current and ever changing workload/working conditions of staff to meet the needs of all of our students?"
Q3: "There has been an influx of federal changes proposed to Medicaid funding, school policies related to equity and inclusion (i.e. “canceling” Black History Month, threats of ICE in schools), the potential elimination of the Department of Education, and the anticipated prioritization of voucher/"school choice" programs. In light of these potential changes, how do you propose we establish a welcoming environment and sense of belonging for all Waunakee students?"
Q4: "What role do you believe that school board members have in advocating for public schools/students at the state level?"
Closing Remarks (Eaton, Heinemann, Murray, Sonne)
