In December 1984, the late Graham Layton and Zaka Rahmatulla’ who were retiring from their very successful business careers, decided to establish the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust with Rs 1 million ($ 66,000). This was used to build and run a mobile eye-hospital in Tando Bago a small town 250 kilometres east of Karachi. They envisioned an organization which would grow to provide free eye treatment to the poor & underprivileged citizens across the length & breadth of Pakistan so that no Pakistani would go blind just because he/she could not afford the treatment.

On World Sight Day, LRBT put eye health at the heart of every generation.

LRBT conducted a free eye screening and awareness session for children, highlighting the importance of regular check-ups, early detection and timely treatment. Because clear vision gives children the freedom to learn, play and dream without limits.

At the same time, LRBT School of Paramedicine marked the day with an eye care awareness activity, encouraging students to prioritize healthy eyes, regular check-ups and preventive eye care.

From children discovering the world to future healthcare professionals learning to protect it, every generation has a role to play in caring for their sight.

On World Sight Day, no one was left unseen.

LRBT brought the gift of sight to the residents of MyHome Al-Mustafa Orphanage & Academy, reaching both children and the elderly—those who deserve care, attention and the chance to see their world clearly.

Our team conducted free eye screenings and awareness sessions, highlighting the importance of regular check-ups, early detection and timely treatment. Three residents requiring surgery have been referred to LRBT for further care, bringing them one step closer to seeing the world again.

For a child, clear vision means learning, playing and dreaming without limits. For an older person, it means greater independence and the ability to see the people and moments that matter.

Because every person deserves to see, and to be seen.

LRBT’s 64 Millionth Story of Sight: Finding His Way Back to the Sun

For 22-year-old Asad, the sun of Tando Adam was once simply part of his working day. But when cataracts began clouding his vision, even standing under the midday sun became difficult.

Asad helps support a family of 10 alongside his two elder brothers. Losing his sight meant more than losing his independence—it threatened his ability to work and provide for his family.

Referred to LRBT Rashidabad, Asad received cataract surgery through LRBT’s Zakat-supported welfare programme. By the very next day, he was discharged—with his sight restored, completely free of cost.

Today, Asad can return to work, support his family, and face the sun once again.

As World Sight Day approaches, Asad’s story is a reminder of why we must . Because protecting and restoring sight can change far more than what a person sees—it can restore independence, dignity, opportunity and hope.

Because restoring sight means restoring the ability to live, work and hope.
