WATERBURY MEW CREW 😻

Sometimes rescue is straightforward.

And sometimes it is heartbreaking in ways we do not quite know how to explain.

Back in January 2025, a member of the Woof Pack was contacted to help with a cat while his owner was hospitalized. That help came in the form of drop-in visits with a very sweet boy named Stevie.

During that time, one thing was very clear: Stevie was loved.

He had a person. He had a home. He had someone who mattered to him.

So when we saw a post about two weeks ago that Stevie had been found outside, we were stunned.

Since then, we have tried every way we know how to reconnect Stevie with his dad. We reached out. We waited. We contacted the police, who conducted a wellness check and did everything they could to help us determine whether Stevie’s owner was safe and reachable. We are truly grateful to Waterbury PD for taking this seriously and for their work trying to help us reconnect a loved cat with the person he once belonged to.

But sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts, the answer is not the one we hoped for.

We do not know what changed. We do not know what circumstances led to Stevie being outside. We do not know what grief, hardship, illness, or life event may have brought us to this point.

What we do know is that Stevie is here now.

And it is not fair to him to keep waiting for someone who may not be able, or may not want, to come back for him.

Stevie is estimated to be around 10 years old. He is neutered and front declawed. His SNAP test is pending at his vet visit next week. His little ear may be the result of past ear mite infections, but we are hopeful it can be managed with a simple otic cleaner and routine care.

Most importantly, he is so, so sweet.

He is the kind of cat who makes you ache a little, because you can tell he had a life before this. You can tell he knew comfort. You can tell he trusted someone.

And now we are going to ask him to trust us.

A huge thank you to Stevie’s foster mom, Lori, for taking him in on such short notice and giving him a safe place to land. Thank you to the neighbors who spoke up, fed him, and made sure he was not left outside to fend for himself. Thank you to our incredible veterinary team at Davis Companion Animal Hospital for helping us get Stevie’s immediate needs taken care of.

And thank you to our friends at Whiskers in Southbury, who have agreed to take this sweet senior boy in once his next vet visit is complete.

Please keep an eye out for Stevie as he becomes available through Whiskers. He deserves a soft bed, a warm window, and someone who chooses him for the rest of his life.

To Stevie’s former dad, wherever you are, we are so sorry that things changed for you.

But we promise you this:

Stevie is going to be okay. 💕

🚨 LOST PET SCAM WARNING 🚨

ETA: Bubba is safe with his mom thanks to some kind neighbors, this is a PSA about found pet scams!

When Bubba was reported missing, a scammer took his photo and used AI to generate an image that made it look like they had him.

They started by asking Bubba’s family for $20. Then they asked for more.

Let us be very clear:

If someone truly found your missing pet, they should not be demanding money to “prove” it, “hold” them, “send a photo,” or “return” them.

Even if you have offered a reward, do not send anyone money until your pet is physically back in your hands.

Scammers prey on people when they are panicked, heartbroken, and desperate to get their family member home. It is cruel. It is disgusting. And unfortunately, it is happening more and more.

If someone contacts you claiming they have your lost pet:

• Ask for clear photos or video from multiple angles
• Ask them to meet you at the police station
• Do not go alone
• Do not send money through Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, gift cards, or anything else
• If they refuse to meet safely, involve the police immediately

We have spoken with Bubba’s family and recommended that they report this to the police.

Please look at the attached photos showing Bubba’s original missing post, the AI-generated scam image, and the scammer’s information so you know what to watch for.

Lost pet families are already living through a nightmare. Do not let scammers take advantage of that fear.

Share this. Warn your neighbors. And if your pet goes missing, please stay cautious. ❤️

Apparently the World Cup is being hosted in America, which is exciting because… who knew we were in it? 🥴⚽️

Do we have a soccer team?

Is it the Knicks?

Go sports ball. Kick the basket. Touchdown or whatever.

Anyway… our adoptable dogs are also looking for a team!

Some want summer adventures. Some want air conditioning and emotional support hot dogs. All are prepared to attend your Fourth of July picnic and supervise the grill with absolutely no qualifications.

They may not know soccer.

We definitely do not know soccer.

But they do know snacks, friendship, and how to make your summer significantly more chaotic, adorable, and full of love. 💕

Waterbury Dog Pound World Cup Draft is open.

Pick your player. 🇺🇸🌭🐾 And like, Go USA!! or something?

Happy tails Reni! We love you!!

CONGRATULATIONS, RENI!

On Saturday, sweet little RENI's life changed forever when she found her happily-ever-after with Sonia, Jessica, and their Boxer, Harley.

Harley and his moms recently lost their beloved Chihuahua, and we have a feeling this tiny bundle of energy is going to help fill a very special place in their hearts.

From the moment they met, it was clear that RENI had found exactly where she belongs.

When RENI arrived at P4P a few weeks ago, she weighed just 6 pounds—about half of the healthy weight she should be. Despite being severely underweight, she never let that dim her spirit. She approached every day with joy, enthusiasm, and enough puppy energy to keep everyone smiling. During her short stay with us, she gained 2 pounds and began her journey toward becoming the healthy, thriving puppy she was always meant to be.

Jessica and Sonia have fully embraced that journey and are committed to helping RENI continue to gain the weight and strength she needs. Most importantly, they are giving her something even more valuable: a loving home where she will never have to wonder where her next meal is coming from or whether she is safe and cherished.

RENI has her whole life ahead of her. She now has a family to cuddle under the covers with at bedtime, a canine sibling to play with, and two devoted moms who already adore her.

Thank you, Sonia and Jessica, for opening your hearts and home to this precious little girl. We couldn't be happier for all of you.
Happy tails, sweet RENI. Your new life starts now.

Waterbury Mew Crew:

Although we are the Waterbury Woof Pack, many of us are also cat lovers, cat trappers, and cat rescuers.

We do a lot of TNR and community cat work in Waterbury. There are other organizations that do this work far more often than we do, and we will always choose to spotlight them first because they are the ones in the trenches day after day.

But we would be remiss not to tell you about Miss Paprika.

Paprika came to us with her three babies. She was truly feral, and she had likely lived her entire life outside. With the help of our friends at Meow Inc., we brought her in on Friday to be spayed, recover safely, and eventually return to the only neighborhood she had ever known.

Unfortunately, when the vet sedated her, they discovered she was running a fever. They did additional diagnostics, including x-rays and ultrasound, and found serious concerns with her heart valves, a spotty liver, and thickened intestines. They also could not rule out FIP.

Given her condition, her prognosis, and the fact that she was truly feral, the kindest decision was made to let her go peacefully.

People like to say cats “adjust” to life on the street. Nothing could be further from the truth.

So often, community cats are not thriving. They are surviving. They are hiding pain. They are having babies while sick, hungry, exhausted, and scared. Paprika was not feral because she did anything wrong. She was feral because people failed her somewhere along the line.

TNR matters because it prevents more babies from being born into that same struggle. It matters because it gives cats like Paprika a chance to be seen, treated, helped, and, when necessary, spared from suffering alone outside.

Rest easy, sweet girl. We are so sorry the world was not kinder to you.

We will take care of your babies.

And her little tortie daughter will carry her name, Paprika, in honor of the mom who did everything she could for them.

Thank you to our friends at Meow Inc. for helping us with this family, and thank you to the incredible team at Stone Veterinary for their compassion, honesty, and care in helping us make the right choice for Paprika.

She did not die struggling on the street. She was warm. She was safe. She was treated with dignity.

And that matters.
