WATERBURY MEW CREW 😻
Sometimes rescue is straightforward.
And sometimes it is heartbreaking in ways we do not quite know how to explain.
Back in January 2025, a member of the Woof Pack was contacted to help with a cat while his owner was hospitalized. That help came in the form of drop-in visits with a very sweet boy named Stevie.
During that time, one thing was very clear: Stevie was loved.
He had a person. He had a home. He had someone who mattered to him.
So when we saw a post about two weeks ago that Stevie had been found outside, we were stunned.
Since then, we have tried every way we know how to reconnect Stevie with his dad. We reached out. We waited. We contacted the police, who conducted a wellness check and did everything they could to help us determine whether Stevie’s owner was safe and reachable. We are truly grateful to Waterbury PD for taking this seriously and for their work trying to help us reconnect a loved cat with the person he once belonged to.
But sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts, the answer is not the one we hoped for.
We do not know what changed. We do not know what circumstances led to Stevie being outside. We do not know what grief, hardship, illness, or life event may have brought us to this point.
What we do know is that Stevie is here now.
And it is not fair to him to keep waiting for someone who may not be able, or may not want, to come back for him.
Stevie is estimated to be around 10 years old. He is neutered and front declawed. His SNAP test is pending at his vet visit next week. His little ear may be the result of past ear mite infections, but we are hopeful it can be managed with a simple otic cleaner and routine care.
Most importantly, he is so, so sweet.
He is the kind of cat who makes you ache a little, because you can tell he had a life before this. You can tell he knew comfort. You can tell he trusted someone.
And now we are going to ask him to trust us.
A huge thank you to Stevie’s foster mom, Lori, for taking him in on such short notice and giving him a safe place to land. Thank you to the neighbors who spoke up, fed him, and made sure he was not left outside to fend for himself. Thank you to our incredible veterinary team at Davis Companion Animal Hospital for helping us get Stevie’s immediate needs taken care of.
And thank you to our friends at Whiskers in Southbury, who have agreed to take this sweet senior boy in once his next vet visit is complete.
Please keep an eye out for Stevie as he becomes available through Whiskers. He deserves a soft bed, a warm window, and someone who chooses him for the rest of his life.
To Stevie’s former dad, wherever you are, we are so sorry that things changed for you.
But we promise you this:
Stevie is going to be okay. 💕
