Exciting News!
We’re thrilled to announce that there will be a Concert/Band Show at BUET Night 2025 on Saturday, November 8th! BUETian Rezwan Siddiqui Sharif (EEE ‘92) and his band Kronedge will be performing at the event. Kronedge also performed at last year’s BUET Night, and it was an absolute blast!

We would like to remind you that the BUETianUSA cultural program ‘BUET Night’ is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Silver Creek Middle school, Kensington, MD, Maryland (5 PM to 10:30 PM). The deadline for event dues is November 5th. If you are interested in attending program, kindly RSVP on Evite and submit your picnic dues via PayPal/Zelle to [email protected]. Registration will not be completed until the payment is received.

Sad News
Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un
(“Surely we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return.”)

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our dear brother and friend Dr. Munawwar Mahmud Sohul Fahmi (EEE BUET, HSC 96 batch) — beloved husband of Dr. Bushra Tawfiq Chowdhury and devoted father of Roddur — returned to his Creator on October 14, 2025, at the age of 46.

Fahmi faced his long and courageous 11-year battle with multiple myeloma with remarkable faith, strength, grace, and perseverance. His final days were filled with love — surrounded by his family, friends, and community members who came to be by his side.

May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, shower him with infinite mercy, and grant him the highest place in Jannatul Firdous. May Allah bless Bushra, Roddur, and all who loved him with patience, strength, and comfort during this immense loss.

Fahmi’s kindness, humor, and warmth touched countless hearts — he will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love and prayers.

About Dr. Munawwar Mahmud Sohul (Fahmi):

Brother Munawwar was an accomplished BUETian Electrical and Electronic Engineer (EEE). He completed his SSC and HSC from Comilla Cadet College in 1994 and 1996, respectively. He graduated from the Department of EEE, BUET in 2003, earned his first Master’s degree from Imperial College London in 2005, and later obtained a second Master’s degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 2011. He completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious Virginia Tech in 2017.

Professionally, he worked as a Principal Engineer at Federated Wireless in Arlington, Virginia, where he made significant contributions in his field.

Beyond his professional achievements, Brother Munawwar was a man of many talents — a poet, sportsman, and beloved friend. He published a poetry book titled “Shabda Namata” in 2022 through Shravan Publications. During his BUET years, he was an active member of the BUET Football and Hockey Teams, and was known for his skills in carrom and football.

Dear BUETians,

This is a reminder that today (Saturday, February 22, 2025) is the day of the '2025 Amar Ekushey' program, organized by the DC Ekushey Alliance (DCEA). The program will start at 5:00 PM at Kenmore Middle School in Arlington, Virginia (Address: 200 S Carlin Springs Road, Arlington, VA 22204). The Floral Wreath presentation is scheduled to be held at 8:35 PM. We will be offering flowers and a wreath on behalf of BUETianUSA family at the Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the martyrs of the historic 1952 Language Movement. If you cannot attend the entire program, we are encouraging you all to be present during the Floral Wreath presentation.

It is a pleasure to inform you that the DC Ekushey Alliance (DCEA) 2025 Committee has organized an art competition for youth and children of the Bangladeshi community living in the DC metro area. This competition will be held on Saturday, February 22nd, in observance of "Omor Ekushey." As a member organization of DCEA, BUETianUSA Capital Region invites all children and youth of the BUETianUSA family to register and participate. Please find the event details below.
