Representatives for the Jaindl Land Co. announced at Wednesday night’s [November 1st 2023] White Township Planning Board meeting that they are abandoning plans to build 1.8 million-square-foot and 800,000-square-foot warehouses, and negotiating to sell the land to [the State of] New Jersey.

Team SRRP congratulates CSFD for their YEARS of hard work and determination facing down a very well financed land developer. It is exciting that the parcel of land may very well be preserved as farmland, under the proposed conditions of sale to the state of New Jersey.

Congratulations!

🌳🌍 Natural forests are vital in carbon storage, outperforming plantations. Afforestation and proforestation, using mixed species, can mitigate emissions.

But caution! Tree planting is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Protecting existing forests is key.

Let's be wise in our approach to a greener future. 🌍🌳

The severe consequences of human disruptions to the global carbon cycle have prompted intense interest in strategies to reduce atmospheric CO2 concentrations. Because growing forests capture CO2 in their biomass and soils, large-scale tree planting efforts have been advertised as a viable way to cou...

Hi all, Washington Township, Warren County NJ is organizing a trail maintenance day

-> Pohatcong Creek Natural Area
-> this Saturday, August 5th, from 9 AM to 11 AM!
-> 54 Mine Hill Rd, Washington, NJ 07882 (Parking is available at the Pohatcong Native Arboretum lot)
-> what to bring: water, gloves, small gardening tools (shears, loppers), bug spray

Due to the recent flash flooding, the trails have suffered some damage. Many of the walking boards (for the wet areas) and one bridge have been washed out of place, sometimes as much as 100 feet downstream. Luckily, they are mostly intact and only need to be moved back into place, but for this, our trails need your help!

Additionally, if time permits, some small connector trails connect the high school to the trail. These have become overgrown and desperately need maintenance (brush clearing).

Volunteer effort is essential in keeping the trails open for all to enjoy. We hope that you can join us, and we will greatly appreciate your help!

Hey there, fellow outdoors lovers! One of our SRRP team members discovered this week that commercial logging is occurring at Merrill Creek Reservoir in Warren County NJ. It stinks when you go hiking to enjoy green pastures and try to get away from it all, only to find yourself confronted by heavy machinery cutting down trees and scarring hiking trails. Isn't that escape the reason you go hiking in the first place?

The logging at Merrill Creek is similar to what we faced at Roaring Rock Park in 2021. And logging is not just about losing trees. It leads to soil erosion, which can mess up the land and our waterways, which we depend on for recreating (fishing) and clean drinking water.

Now, you might be thinking, "But Merrill Creek is private land. The landowners can do what they want with it, right?" Well, it's not that simple. These are our natural spaces, and we all have a stake in them. Plus, some of these logging activities are being kept hush-hush, which is a red flag.

So, what can we do? First off, we need to spread the word about this issue. Then, we must push our lawmakers and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to enforce and strengthen laws protecting our forests.

Our forests are more than just timber. They're home to wildlife, they give us clean air, they help ensure our clean water supply, and they're our escape to nature. Let's stand up for them and ensure they're here for our kids and grandkids to enjoy.
