You may be hearing more about SNAP right now, but what does it actually do?

SNAP helps more than 41 million people afford food each month, with most households already living in poverty.

As conversations about federal spending and nutrition programs continue, it’s important to understand what SNAP really means for families.

It helps stretch grocery budgets, supports better health, and strengthens local communities.

Because for millions of people, SNAP helps make sure there’s food on the table.

Last weekend, Bread President & CEO Rev. Eugene Cho served as the Baccalaureate Speaker for the Class of 2026 at Wake Forest University , encouraging graduates to resist cynicism, refuse the dehumanization of others, and “not grow weary in doing good.” Eugene was also blessed with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Wake Forest University School of Divinity.

As Eugene shared, “The question is not whether you can do everything. The question is whether you will refuse to do nothing.”

We’re grateful to the students and faculty at Wake Forest for the thoughtful conversations and opportunities to partner in advocacy.

Thank you to the Wake Forest community for the invitation and for investing in leaders committed to justice, compassion, and ending hunger. Read and watch Rev. Eugene Cho’s full Baccalaureate address at https://magazine.wfu.edu/2026/05/18/cho-wake-forest-baccalaureate/

“At the root of hunger is indifference.”

During Bread for the World’s 23rd Gala to End Hunger, Cardinal Sean O’Malley reminded us that compassion and gratitude are powerful antidotes to the “globalization of indifference” described by Pope Francis.

As hunger and injustice persist around the world, we are called not to look away, but to become neighbors to one another and advocates for change.

We are thankful to Cardinal O’Malley for this powerful message and for challenging us to continue building a future rooted in compassion, justice, and hope.

If you feel led to respond with advocacy today, join the Bread for the World community in speaking up to your member of Congress today for people experiencing hunger in the U.S. and around the world: https://go.bread.org/page/90712/action/1?ea.tracking.id=fb

Meet Gabriela! 🌟

"Advocating to end hunger is unique in that we already have the programs and policies in place to do it. It is not a matter of creating new programs from scratch, but of improving access to already existing programs, strengthening them, and modernizing them. My hope for the future is that programs like SNAP and WIC are able to serve everyone who needs them."

On April 28th, Bread for the World hosted the 23rd Annual Gala to End Hunger, Breaking Bread, Building the Future.

Each year, hunger advocates come together to reflect, reconnect, and recommit to the work of ending hunger and this year was especially meaningful. With remarks from Bread for the World President & CEO Rev. Eugene Cho and Board Chair Dr. Jeremy Everett , a powerful keynote address from Cardinal Seán O’Malley, moving testimony from Karen Smith, and musical performances by The Porter's Gate , the evening reminded us of what’s possible when we come together in hope, compassion, and action.

Because of the incredible generosity of our supporters, we are hopeful that we have reached our ambitious $700K fundraising goal! Every dollar given fuels advocacy and policy change that helps end hunger and poverty in the U.S. and around the world.

Thank you for your presence, partnership, and commitment to building a more just and hopeful future. If you would like to support advocacy to end hunger, you can do so at: https://give.bread.org/page/93086/donate/1

Mother’s Day was earlier this week, but supporting moms doesn’t stop there.

Around the world, moms need access to healthcare, nutritious food, and the support to care for their families. That’s why we advocate for global programs like PEPFAR and Feed the Future.

PEPFAR helps moms access lifesaving HIV prevention and treatment. Feed the Future works with communities to improve nutrition, strengthen food systems, and invest in long-term solutions to hunger.

Because when moms are supported, families are stronger everywhere. 💛

Love looks like a lot of things.

It looks like early mornings, packed lunches, and making sure everyone else eats first.

This Mother’s Day, we honor the ways mothers and caregivers show up again and again with care that sustains.

Happy Mother’s Day 💛
