For over 40 years, the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe's traditional territories have been targeted by Cadiz Inc., a foreign investor backed company. Cadiz wants to extract and sell groundwater from the Mojave Desert, at the heart of Mojave Trails National Monument, between Joshua Tree National Park and Mojave National Preserve. This project, which Cadiz calls the Mojave Groundwater Bank, would dry up desert springs that are sacred to the Tribe.

Abigail Adams lived at a time when women were not supposed to have or express their opinions, yet that never stopped her.

With almost no formal schooling, she educated herself from her father’s library and became one of the most quietly influential writers of her era. She is well-known for her Remember the Ladies letter to her husband John Adams in which she urged him to consider the rights of women while laying out the framework for the new independent nation. Nearly two centuries after Abigail’s death, her legacy survives in the letters she wrote and the national park site which bears her name.

Experience her story at the Adams National Historical Park in Quincy, Massachusetts. That is just what NPCA did recently alongside author and historian Laura Kamoie, who has written extensively about Abigail’s life and work.

We had the opportunity to view original items from the Adams family home that showed us how the family lived and gave us a unique insight into their lives.

We just saved Big Bend National Park from border construction; but the fight to save Oregon Pipe Cactus National Monument and Coronado National Memorial is moving fast and furious.

Customs and Border Protection are already bulldozing these national park units for border barriers; a public comment period is now open, but it’s after damage has already begun! Nevertheless, we must take this opportunity to use our voices to put a stop to further damage. Our collective power made a difference for Big Bend; we can do it here too! 💪

In the fifth episode of United by Parks: Artist Sessions, meet Brittany Fan a painter, photographer and graphic designer based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her parks-inspired piece is a juxtaposition of many different scenes in Shenandoah National Park. She hopes that it ties together all of the parts of the park that you might not see all at once, but will once you spend enough time there.

BREAKING: Border Construction BLOCKED in Big Bend National Park!


A judge in El Paso just issued a preliminary injunction barring the administration from further border construction in Big Bend. This news comes just months after federal contractors bulldozed through Big Bend National Park, one of our country’s wildest places, wreaking havoc on desert delicate ecosystems. The administration destroyed natural, untouched areas of the park as part of their effort to build heavy border infrastructure, including barriers and new patrol roads, ignoring outcry from border communities and national park advocates like you.

Today’s ruling affirms what we have said all along: Big Bend is no place for a wall, Big Bend is no place for border barriers or other heavy infrastructure. It’s great news that at least for now, the administration cannot keep bulldozing Big Bend. NPCA has been fighting to protect national parks on the border from damage for years. In August, NPCA joined the Sierra Club in filing an amicus brief supporting the Center for Biological Diversity’s lawsuit to stop construction of a border barrier and related infrastructure in and around Big Bend National Park. NPCA is represented by Earthjustice. NPCA is grateful to the Center for Biological Diversity and other plaintiffs in this landmark legal action.

The fight is not over. The next step is clear: we need the administration to repair the damage they’ve done to this national park, and restore the damaged areas to their former glory. We are just DAYS away from the Roadless Rule comment period ending.

Roadless areas in America’s national forests support wildlife and plant biodiversity, viewsheds and soundscapes, and climate resilience, as well as air and water quality.

Grand Staircase-Escalante was designated in September 1996, so we should have been celebrating its 30th anniversary. Instead, this national monument is caught in an ideological tug-of-war.

After a proclamation slashed approximately 1.87 million acres from Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, huge areas that were formally in the boundaries are now open to new mining claims and oil and gas leasing.
The proclamations attempt to dismantle years of collaborative stewardship between Tribal Nations on these landscapes.
