Conservation Nation Academy will kick off its two-day school listening tour, Listening to the Wild, starting tomorrow. Follow along over the next two days as we visit six schools and reach over 700 students!
CN fellows, Taylor Rabe and Amir Dehbi, will be joining us from Yellowstone to educate students on bioacoustics, the science of animals sounds, and how it is helping scientists to better understand wolves. Taylor and Amir are part of a new generation of researchers using bioacoustics to unlock the hidden language of wolves. They are aiming to uncover how wolves communicate using tools like recording devices, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The insights they’re discovering are helping researchers better understand, and ultimately protect, these important keystone species and the ecosystems they sustain.

🌊 Happy World Aquatic Animal Day! What better way to celebrate than diving into Manatee Tales?
Meet the gentle giants of the Caribbean — and the real people working to protect them. In this hands-on lesson, students step into the shoes of community members living near a manatee sanctuary in the Dominican Republic, inspired by the work of Conservation Nation grantee Fátima Ramis. 🐾💙
Tourism. Fishing. Farming. Conservation. How do they all connect? Students find out — through role-play, evidence-based arguments, and real-world problem solving. It's NGSS-aligned, bilingual (English & Spanish), and actually gets kids excited about science.
Today, we celebrate the creatures that call our oceans, rivers & coasts home. 🐟🐠🌿 And we empower the next generation to protect them.

🌿 Roots of Resilience 🌿
Kenya's mangroves are fighting back; and conservationist Fredrick Kioko Kilonzo is leading the charge. In our latest LIVE! lesson, students dive into real scientific data to explore how these incredible coastal forests protect wildlife, shorelines, and our climate; and what it takes to bring them back.
Because when communities and conservationists work together, ecosystems heal. 🌊

Knowledge knows no borders 🌍 Conservation Nation grantees Colleen O'Donnell (USA) and Fredrick Kioko Kilonzo (Kenya) teamed up with partners in Zambia, Kenya, and Maryland to explore sustainable beekeeping as a livelihood for communities in South Luangwa. The result? Women's daily income jumped from $3 to $15 — and a model for grassroots, cross-continental conservation was born. 🍯✨

Meet the Mindo Harlequin Toad — once thought extinct, now making a comeback in Ecuador's cloud forests. In our very first Academy LIVE! lesson, conservationist Gaby Sandoval takes students straight into the field, sharing real data and stories from the search to save this incredible species.
Science + community = a second chance. 💚

Congratulations to our newest Conservation Nation Fellow, Amir Dehbi! ✨
Amir is a PhD student at the University of Colorado pushing the boundaries of conservation science. He’s using AI and machine learning to help scientists listen to wolves at scale. Bioacoustics is quickly becoming one of the most powerful tools for understanding wildlife, and Amir is right at the cutting edge of this work.
Recently, Amir joined us in Yellowstone National Park to film our newest Conservation Nation Academy lesson, where he explains how technology can transform thousands of hours of audio recordings into insights about wolf behavior, communication, and conservation. 🏔️🐺
Check out Amir in action behind the scenes and stay tuned for our upcoming lesson on listening to wolves.
The future of conservation sounds pretty exciting!
