Last week in DC, we closed out Seeding Disruption Cohort X — and what a powerful way to mark the end of this 10th chapter together.

Our Fellows gathered for an evening of good food, reflection, laughter, and connection before spending the next day learning alongside one another as part of the final session in a year-long journey. Over the past year, this cohort has wrestled with hard questions, challenged systems, deepened relationships, and continued building the muscle required to lead for racial equity and liberation in education and beyond.

There’s something incredibly meaningful about ending where we began: in community.

To our Cohort X Fellows: thank you for your honesty, brilliance, courage, and commitment to disrupting inequity in ways both big and small. It has been an honor to learn with and from you.

And yes… we know some of you are already asking: “So when is the next cohort launching?” 👀

We’re actively working toward bringing Seeding Disruption back in early 2027 as we navigate a challenging funding landscape. We deeply believe spaces like this are still necessary — perhaps now more than ever — and we’re committed to building toward a sustainable future for this community.

Stay tuned. ❤️

Dr. King did not reserve his courage for what was popular. He spoke when it cost him allies, funding, and safety.

On his birthday, let us remember that his legacy is not only about dreams—but about dissent. If we had listened then, perhaps we would not still be wrestling with the same violence today.

Honoring Dr. King means refusing silence when conscience calls.

A season of reflection. A season of hope. ❄️✨

As we close out the year, we’re grateful for the partners and community who continue to show up with care, commitment, and courage. Together, we’ve made space for honest dialogue, deeper relationships, and long-term work toward equity.

Thank you for walking alongside us. 💛

History isn’t just what happened — it’s what we choose to remember.

For decades, the U.S. celebrated Columbus Day as a story of discovery. But the fuller truth tells of the millions of Indigenous people whose lives, cultures, and lands were forever changed by colonization.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day isn’t about erasing history — it’s about telling it honestly. It’s about honoring truth, resilience, and the first peoples of this land who continue to lead, create, and thrive today.

At The Equity Lab, we believe truth-telling is a form of liberation. 🌎✨

What can Cleveland’s educational history teach us about the choices we face today—in every community?

The Equity Lab is proud to support Relay Cleveland, a powerful, place-based campaign that connects education, equity, and storytelling.

Through community-driven research, oral histories, and a moving exhibition, Relay Cleveland reflects on more than 50 years of the city’s school desegregation journey. As we approach the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Reed v. Rhodes decision, this work reminds us that place matters.

Every city holds lessons about how equity in education is won—or lost. Relay Cleveland’s stories help us see how history can guide the way forward, in Cleveland and across the country.

Every reunion reminds us why we started.

This moment from the 2022 Nexus Reunion still grounds us. Since then, the work has deepened, the circle has grown, and our shared commitment to change continues to lead us forward—especially in uncertain times.

In our July newsletter, we’re reflecting on what it means to lead with clarity, care, and courage when the path ahead isn’t clear.

On this 4th of July, we honor the complexity of freedom.

We hold space for the promise of America — not as it was handed down, but as it’s been relentlessly shaped by those who were excluded from its founding vision.

At The Equity Lab, we believe in the courage to name injustice — and the power of dreaming something truer into being. We echo Hughes’ call to imagine an America that lives up to its ideals — one where liberation is collective, and equity is not just a principle, but a practice.

Today, we reflect. We resist. We reimagine.
