The Washington Post recently launched its new Style section in a revitalized digital form. 2001 Chipster Marian Chia-Ming Liu served as the project editor. For a year, she led efforts across multiple departments to make the launch possible.

According to this explainer (link below), the new Style section “wants to help its readers understand what’s happening in current culture, and what it means — practically, aesthetically, cosmically.”

The Washington Post’s Style section has been revitalized for a digital audience, with sharp coverage of culture, politics, the media, fashion and more.

The Washington Post’s powerful investigation Searching for Maura examines the Smithsonian’s collection of human brains and remains, which were mostly taken without consent from people of color.

This video breaks down how the Post approached the year-long investigation with insights from two Chips Quinn alums, investigative reporter Nicole Dungca (CQS 2007) and investigative data reporter Andrew Ba Tran (CQS 2006). Their coverage is presented in a variety of multimedia formats and in both English and Filipino.

Maura, a Filipino woman, died after coming to the U.S. to be put on display at the 1904 World's Fair. A Smithsonian anthropologist likely took part of her brain.
